PVD/ DLC Coating a PAM 000
I'm thinking about getting a 000 and getting it either PVD/ DLC coated. Is this something anyone has done or has had any good or bad experiences of?
I'd be keen to hear peoples thoughts on this. Good idea or disrespectful to a perfectly simple and classic watch? Thanks in advance. Ian |

just a quick note on PVD/DLC....PVD is a process (Physical Vapor Deposition) whereas DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) is a type of PVD material. if one were to PVD a watch, using DLC is a good way to go, as it more durable than other PVD materials.
as far as it being "disrespectful", it's your watch, so, go with what makes you happy. if it's done well, a DLC 000 can look great. did a quick google and came up with this: |

I took the plunge. PVD's a durable surfacing solution. It reduces scratches and scuff marks. It also gives the watch a mean military look. FYI, it is NOT reversible.

First you get a 000, then send it to a reputable place to get PVD. Everyone coats differently so ymmv but I went with Jack at IWW.

I DLC'd my 111 and don't regret it one bit. You have to decide whether you want a more stealth black coating or a pencil lead gray. Typically a DLC coating provider will offer one or the other. Both look good - I find the dark black looks better with gators and dressy straps while the pencil lead works great with ammos and matches coating of watches such as PAM 360. Here is a pic of my stealth black DLC provided by Jack at IWW who has a top notch reputation. The coating has been incredibly durable.

PVD/DLC PAM's always sell... Always a market for it pending you get bored of it!
Had a 000 and 005 both PVD'd.. Were strong/durable, but I don't bang them around or beat them up! Beauties especially with the strap options, looks good on anything you put on it. Looking for another myself at the moment, |

So... would you pvd the caseback or leave it with the original stainless finish?

As for resale, you'll get what they are worth normally, minus about half for the PVD, or sometimes you'll eat the cost of PVD'ng it... But they sell and fast |

what are the thoughts on a PVD finish for a 312? I have one which has been well used and therefore could do with a refinish anyway, so thought the PVD might be the way to go. Would look a little like the new 441 if you got a nice assolutamente strap.
Anyone know if you can apply a smoke finish to the inside of the glass caseback also? maybe all this would be a step too far. I like the historic connection with the 000 PVD, but maybe the same can't be said for doing this to a 312... hmmm |

A PVD 312 would be unique but I'd make to properly cover up the quick strap release mechanism.

Thinking about dlc coating on my PAM25. I know Jack at IWW is highly recommended, but anyone have experience with ABC Watchwerks in Los Angeles?
Thanks. |

Has anyone got any experience of someone in the UK who does this work? I've got the details of one person, but would be grateful if someone had a few names of people together with any experiences of the service.
Thanks. |

Looks awesome. And I agree that Panerai's are some of the few watches that look good like that.

I see no problem with DLCing a Panerai...or any watch.
I think they look awesome! |
