5204p (black dial) vs 5370p

Hey all

I am having tough time to pick 5204p or 5370p for few months. Every single day I pick the other one. Price is not the issue between those 2 for me. Here are my pros and cons for each of them.

5204p
- it has a perpetuel calendar complication that I do not have in my collection. But in the same time I do not really like manuel winding mechanism in perpetual also I prefer apperture display which only 5208 has
- it matches better with matt black strip compared to 5370p
- on my wrist it feels a little bit small
- it is just like 35k more expensive than 5370p and you have perpetual

5370p
- with its case, size, email dial and breguet numbers it looks great and I think it looks better than 5204p
- I feel like it has a better future value
- For my wrist size is great
- however I have great watches by getting this one my collection will still lack of perpetual

This is how it is for me and looking to hear your comments...

Thanks

I prefer the 5204 but from reading your post I think you´ve already decided to go with the 5370.

Both watches are awesome so I think there´s no right or wrong here.

5370P would be my choice. You're a fortunate man to have this choice

My heart says 5370P and my mind understand the 5204. But I think I would ultimately go with the 5370 as the enamel dial and "pureness" of it just pushes me over the top. Also, I have never loved the double chin on the 5204 and these are watches you need to absolutely love.

5204p (black dial) vs 5370p

5370p would be my pick, but both are special watches.

When I started reading your post, I was expecting a this or that based on positives of one vs. the other. You seem to be rationalizing negatives of each (albeit much less on the 5370p - will it scratch your itch because it doesn’t have a PC?).

It sounds like you have, at least some, reservations on both. Afford it or not, it’s a big ticket item to make compromises.

My 2-cents.

Well I can find both when I decide. Well whichever I pick after this one I wanna go for 5208p which has exactly the pc I love which is automatic and with appertures but it needs some time and until that time comes I wont have a PC :)

I just wanted share my thoughts and feelings about both I shared the post maybe I hear something different about them :)

In that case, 5370p is the answer! That and a 5208p would be just spectacular. Please share pics when they arrive.

What else do you have in your collection?

You made mention that you do not like a manual wind so I would say no to the 5204 because you will have to keep setting the day-date and moonphase and that could annoy you. The 5370P is manual wind also but would just take a quick second to adjust the time and wind her up. Also, Think it looks better on your wrist and prefer the enamel dial and square pushers. Best of luck in choosing

You summed up why you should get the 5370.
5204.....yawn
If you said 5970p vs. 5370 than that is a contest but for me the 5204 doesn’t come close to the 5370

Another vote for the 5370. Then save up and get a better PCC, 5970, 5270 or the aforementioned 5208.

My vote would be the 5370 as well. Can't go wrong with either but it sounds like you already decided. Set sights on another PCC for the future!

I think 5204p looks better on your wrist.
Manually winding a perpetual calendar first thing in the morning is a nice ritual connecting with the flow of the time in your life and days in the mechanical model of that on your wrist. It may get you on a new avenue in the way you live your day. Every day.

5204p vs. 5370p influenced by 5208p

Hello,

I understand your decision, it is challenging as both pieces I believe are important modern pieces and in ways they crossover in asthetics and use. You have been dilligent in holding onto just the best of class for your collection.

Just a few possibly new ideas for you with winders, straps and the 5208p;

About the 5204p:

The case design and function is much more influenced by the 2499 whatever you think about that.

When you achive the 5208p it will not have a split second chronograph. So, there will still be functional differences between the two.

I attached a picture for you regarding strap changes, a private label strap rubberized with the Patek platinum buckle on the 5204p. This really changed the dynamic of the watch for me, I can wear it daily now it is also water resistant to 30m (wash hands). Note: The 5208p, not resistant at all.

Orbita manual watch winders maybe a solution for you. More care is required, but if care is taken - one does have a watch that can be left for days without actually touching it.

About the 5370p

Attached is a picture is of a Patek matte strap with deviated stiching for the 5370p. I feel like it sports it up a bit and accentuates the dial. The shinny felt to formal to me. Note: the 5208p comes with a matte strap.

With this change, the 5370p is a work of art on my wrist, the 5204p I consider slightly more utilitarian and useful.

So, oddly enough...you may find room for all three in your life ultimately.

If I had to choose between the 5370p and the 5204p while waiting for the 5208p...I would likely do as many others have said in less words: 5370p.

If on looks the 5370, if on interest complications wise then 5204, I think I would get the 5204 but the 5370 is an awesome looking watch, but to be honest have seen neither IRL

That 5370 looks amazing on your wrist! You can't go wrong either way, but I'd go for the 5370 in a heartbeat.

Brian, thanks for posting the pic of your 5370p with the matte strap and deviated stitching. I ordered the exact same combo from my AD a few weeks ago (sight unseen) for my 5370p, Looks fantastic, makes the wait even harder now !!

I believe that Patek 5204P reflects the brand's DNA better than other option. It used to canonize not only split-seconds but also perpetual calendar. Were I you, I would go on either 5204P or 5208P. On the other hand, ALS 1815 Rattrapante would be another consideration.

SlipR35: That's great. I'm glad to hear I made your wait harder:)

odeon: I like to think of the the 5204's as the modern 2499. Which I think is a fantastic expression of most things Patek.

Are these not the best problems?

As mentioned already, both the 5204P and the 5370P are great wearable watches. I remember visiting the London Salon shortly after the 5370P was released. They told me that a lot of people who were waiting for the 5204P requested to be switched over to the 5370P list. I don't know if the 5370P is still more desirable as the 5204P as I feel they both have their unique set of attractive features.

Both the 5204P and the 5370P use the 29-535 PS movement, a beautiful in-house chrono movement with a split second feature. However I would encourage OP to also consider the split-second watches made with the 29-525 PS movement.
