Deleted thread

A guy who joined TRF in Jan this year posted 40 times, said he’d had enough and was leaving the forum.
Then the whole thread gets deleted (I think).
I think members of the forum should have an explanation, should they want one.
I would like one. So could a moderator please provide one.
Regards

Can’t remember, but one of the posts called him a dealer (I think).

I’m not familiar with the member that you’re referring to, I can’t give you an explanation without a username.

I can’t remember his name, someone posted a bye bye video as a response.
I think the op was talking about dealerships and grays.
Sorry to be so vague.
There was nothing controversial up to my post, but perhaps things got a bit crazy after that.
I’m not saying moderators shouldn’t have deleted the thread, just that transparency is paramount, and if a member wants to know the reason of deletion, he has a right.

An explanation for what? .. Why he left or why the thread was deleted?

I remember the thread. Guy posted some serious pictures. Really high end stuff. I’m not sure I ever understood what he was so unhappy about. I think he mentioned some friends being banned or something right? Maybe on the PP forum?

If a thread gets deleted, that's it. Gone. There's no public place where deleted threads are listed or explained.

Not sure if OP means Bryant Park. He joined in August, not January.

He announced that he was going to "cease participating for a prolonged period". Which turned out to be less than a month.

The Forum does not discuss members who leave or are banned; why would a member believe that he has a right to this information?

Don't know who this situation is referring to, but if a member makes a public statement about leaving, we are more than happy to expedite the action if it is warranted.

Nothing against the OP .. But this kind of reminds me of a conversation earlier in the lobby of my eye doctor's office .. Another patient I know from the office brought up a topic about information and how much information the public have a right to know about another person.

I am personally of the belief that people are only entitled to know what I'm willing to tell them and nothing more. The topic came up because another patient, someone I never met before wanted to know what dealership my car came from and how I was able to own it at my age. I didn't tell him, and he didn't see the big deal.

I know this is off track but the principal is the same. As members of TRF we are not entitled to know why a person is banned or why a topic is deleted unless the Owner or the Mods decide to tell us as a courtesy.

It was such a stupid thread and should have been deleted when he posted it before anyone even replied to it.

I didn't reply because I knew it would be gone in minutes.

A long time ago I made a thread about something, and it was locked fairly soon after making it. I was fairly new to TRF at the time, ad at first I didn't understand why the thread was locked, but someone told me in private, and I understood.

I've been here for 7.5 years, and the forum was around before I arrived, and it will be here long after I'm gone and in the ground. There is a reason it has been around for so long. That reason is because the Mods believe in constant vigilance.

Oh yeah, and good ice cream, just not from Bob's .. his ice cream is of poor quality and so is the cake.

My personal life experience tells me to mind my own business. In my time on the TRF, I have seen and read posts that were removed and seen members get themselves removed. The Moderators here do an exceptional job at staying on top of the posts. Very seldom do I see a long term member have an issue because if you spend the time here you understand the rules. Many times, I read posts from new members and realize the subtle manner many members get the point across is lost on them. Most go away, some learn and stay. Still a great place to be.

What a hilarious thread.

Joan of Arc died so that someone who went mental at the end of his "I'm leaving TRF" gets the right to have his thread remain.

At least we think it may have been that member. It might be this other member who's just joined.

Deleted thread

Well if my is of any value - this might be a good time to say that new members often eschew the sticky’s with the rules.

I’m sure the member who left us, and his thread, ran askew of those very rules.

And if a new rule is needed after a brilliant exposition was deleted, you’d see it in an update
