Icon20 Omega Boutique Sydney onsite service

Went into the Omega store in Sydney today and was pleasantly surprised to see that all servicing is now done on site, rather than sent off to the Swatch service centre in Melbourne.

Unfortunately though it seems that there is currently an 8 week wait on servicing.

They must be very busy, since RSC takes only 4 weeks to service my 1986 Rolex DD and it cost me $800.00, while a friend of mine told me, Omega Boutique Sydney will charge $900.00 for a vintage.

Hope them being busy isnt a reflection on the Omega quality

Is the $800 charge at RSC a standard charge for a service or did this include any parts, extras, etc.

Also wondering if i have to take in my SS sub which is 7 years old but has only been worn less than a dozen times. Thoughts?

The complete service plus hands (all three, likely) came to $797.27 plus 10% GST. As we all already know, they keep the old parts. Surprisingly, the movement does not require parts to be replaced.

When I picked up the watch, jokingly I asked whether my watch would be + - 0 secs and the polite technician told me, 'for your watch, it is + - 4 seconds, daily'. True enough, he told no lies.

My friend got a shock of his life, when OBS told him, to service his 1966 Omega Constellation, it would cost $900.00. He then went to see one of the local watchmakers in the City, to get his watch serviced. Believe it or not, it cost him below $200.00 and after the service, the watch is doing + - 1 second per day. Omega accuracy is legendary.

Anyway, RSC did a good job, I can say. No regrets going to them - the model reference 18048 is covered with a 2 year international warranty.

Are they really interested, to service a vintage-watch?

I am just wondering, whether the advice 'there is currently an 8 week wait on servicing' and also, the '$900.00 to service a vintage Omega watch', is a polite modus operandi to say that Omega Boutique is not interested to service a time-piece, not sold by Swatch.

Maybe, a glance at those watchmakers, sitting in a glass-cage and staring down at your vintage-watch, will tell more stories, I reckon.

not sure, but my AT is a 2008 (not vintage) and it sounded to me like the 8 weeks I was quoted was a 'standard' lead-time.
So maybe they are trying to manage customers perceptions by underpromising and overdelivering?

I had the same experience being quoted for service that apparently requires several parts to be replaced. The irony is the watch was working fine until the battery went dead. This recommendation is from Swatch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. USD 350 for replacement parts excluding battery is a major rip-off. Since I have decided not to let them replace the parts, hopefully they will not sabotage my watch. Can anyone recommend me a good place to replace/service my Omega DeVille.

The authorized service station will never sabotage your watch, so do not worry. Dealing with a car salesman or real estate agent, no comment. This is talking from first-hand experience.

Had my 1997 Bond restored, new face, hands and bezel, plus service, took 4 weeks at just under $900. Almost wasn't worth the price as that is the value of the watch but it has great sentimental value to me so worth it. these things will last forever...

Hi mate,
Yes i replaced all those parts as they were really faded by the sun. She was my daily wearer for over 13 years, never skipped a beat, and i too really loved how she was fading and aging gracefully, until i bought the Chrono version. Having a new one next to the older one really made her look worn, so i decided to restore her.
I have put the blue leather strap with white stitching and she looks better than new, amazing that she is over 15 years old now....
