moonphase Rolex?

Just was looking through a magazine and ran across an ad from DeMesy & Co. buyers of used watches, etc. They will pay $4000 + for a moonphase Rolex. Anyone have one of these or a pic? Maybe they're a cellini. This outfit looks like a glorified pawnshop. I'd rather sell to another Rolex lover where my baby, although being given up for adoption, would be well cared for.

These were watches from the late 40s early 50s Rolex moonphase Cal 780 Ref 8171 S.Steel and they also made them in gold, and both worth a lot more than $4000 I can assure you well over 10 times as much.

You seem to imply that you own one. If so...why do you need to see a pic? Please don't take this the wrong way I am just very confused by your post.

No, I don't own one. I guess I inferred that by saying "my baby" , but I meant any Rolex I owned. These are beautiful watches. I wonder if they were not chronometers, what their accuracy was. If the one in your post is yours, you're very fortunate!

They was not COSC tested but quite capable to todays chromometer standard. As today there are watches like the Non date sub and the Airking, not tested. But the Explorer exactly the same movement, but tested by the third party COSC.Now each bare movement thats tested, and note bare movement,it costs around £140 per unit. Now this cost is passed on to the buyer, but today most movements, even lesser brands. With a pit of patience and careful regulation could match the COSC standard. So chronometer today IMHO is just more of a pure marketing ploy .

$4,000, I'll take as many as you can get your hands on!

As mentioned above, these are very EXPENSIVE. You are looking upwards of US$70,000 (and that's conservative!).

i saw 3 moonphase rolex yesterday at the pre-owned watch shop. how do you verify that they are original/authentic? think of sending them to RSC for verification. but, they are vintage watches and i believed RSC will not take up this job. because i understand that vintage watches some of their parts may or may not be original anymore.

as per my observation, there is ones comes with all the serial number on it case, engine/rotor n etc...

sorry, i got no photo to shows at the moment.

any comment
