New nickname for 116500 black dial

Hello TRF. The other day, someone posted the new ceramic Daytona with black dial and referred it as "Darth Vader". Is any of you aware of this new nickname? Well I know I like it since I have the "Light side of the force" aka the Daytona 116520 with white dial.
So what do you think?

New nickname for 116500 black dial

I like it! It goes hand in hand will the evil pricing they have on the second hand market too hahaha I know others will bash nick names, not sure why, but they will. Be prepared!

I think Coke and Pepsi are the only two nicknames I've ever used. I just don't like using them, BUT I kinda like Vader for the black 116500. For some reason I can tolerate Vader a heck of a lot easier than Kermit, Platona, etc.!

So would the white face Daytona be a stormtrooper?

Nicknames are basically rather foolish and appeal to those who cannot be bothered to memorise a serial number.

It is an affront to Rolex and should be discouraged if not banned from this forum.

Call it by the name that Rolex gives it.

Regards

Mick

I like the nicknames.
Or how about calling the model the model itself.
I cant be bothered to memorize the reference numbers.

It takes 10 seconds to memorise a serial number. Is that really too much of an effort to make in order to stop degrading a good watch. If someone needs to call a watch "a batman" because they cannot be bothered to memorise a serial number, then they should should buy another brand.

I did say - call it by the name that Rolex gives it and that seems sensible.

Regards

Mick

Hey guys, new member here and I have to say this gave me quite a good laugh. What's wrong with nick names? It's just brings a bit of fun to the hobby IMHO. I don't think it degrades the rolex brand in any way. FWIW every time I go into an AD wearing my Green Sub 9 times out of 10 the first thing I hear is "nice Hulk".

Sometimes nick names stick, some times not. I was hoping Batman and Hulk would fit into the latter, but alas, it would not seem so.

Lot of anger here regarding a simple nickname. It's all in simple fun, why be anal about it?

Welcome Doc! Nicknames probably exist because the watch is very popular IMHO.
CHEERS.

Just no. Especially because people keep trying to stick "Darth Vader" and "Stormtrooper" to every black and white dial Rolex, respectively, in recent memory.

No, thankfully.

It already has a name and does not need another.

Nicknames are getting out of hand IMHO

The watches themselves have names already

It's just because one particular responder on this thread doesn't like to have any fun andthinks that Rolex is synonymous with a patek minute repeater. Or with timex depending on the thread.

I'm so sorry Mr Marcus09.The nicknames or monikers Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker have already been taken and was coined by the late great Chuck Maddox ,an Omega watch collector and an expert in vintage chronographs in the late 70s .

The Omega Seamaster chronograph Ref 145.0023 Calibre 861 black ceramic-like coated steel case is known as Darth Vader and the polished tungsten chrome case is of course Anakin Skywalker since " It hasn't turned to the dark side yet.."

Both watches are highly sought after by Omega aficionados and each in good condition can fetch a pretty price tag of around USD 6xxx in today's marketDont even think of pinching the Jedi nicknames too...
