DJ41 vs Sky-Dweller
Internal components and functions aside, is the major difference the dials of the DJ41 and Sky-Dweller, which look fairly identical except the middle 24 hour circle?

The sky dweller does share design elements of the datejust, but wears much larger and is considerably thicker. Two very different watches when on wrist. I would urge you to go to your local AD and try on both. You'll immediately see the difference. PM models of the sky dweller are commonly seen in AD's and the SS/WG version is due out late summer/early fall.

As someone who loves the comfort and slim proportions of the DJ41, but is very interested in the steel Skydweller, I am also interested how it wears. I just tried the SD43 as compared to the Subc and found the SD43 much too heavy and uncomfortable. I know the Skydweller isn't anywhere that territory but did make me think - there is something to be said for all day wearing comfort

Isn't the SD a 42? Also it currently only comes with oyster bracelet and not jubilee?

The Sky-dweller does seem very top-heavy I would say
If I had to use an analogy, a bit like the difference between an AP diver and an AP ROO |

Quite the difference on the wrist! The Sky Dweller is a considerably larger watch.

The SD wears noticeably larger and thicker and packs more complications / function.

I attended a Rolex event at my AD and had a good close look and feel of the Sky Dewelller - it's a real winner for me.
Great wrist presence. Nice complication. PCL's. - What's not to like |

Sky Dweller features the most comprehensive and complex movement made by Rolex, it must be complexer than Daytona. It feels big yet an ultimate discreet watch that features annual calendar

Sky dweller is an incredible movement. I know it's not for everyone but I like it. If you can handle a sd50 or sd4k you can handle a sky dweller.
The annual calander is one of the best.

The DJ is a fine watch with a lot of history and the updated DJ41 is very nice. Hard to discuss the two watches based on size, function and cost as they are very far apart. On the SD or SD43 watches being top heavy I believe in my experience that that comes back to the watches being adjusted appropriately for your wrist. I own two Sky-Dwellers and they are big watches for the Rolex Line-Up but when the bracelet is right so are the watches. Go try them on. You will know. For me the difference would be the money.

They're very different watches at very different price points. Up close the differences become more obvious.

Different cases/watches all together.
The major difference is they are completely different. |

If I were having to choose I'd opt to go with the DJ41 and the BLNR. You pay alike more than a SKYD but you'd have two great pieces

Isn't it "only" 1 mm in difference and so I go back to my OP that the dial has a lot to do with the visual appearance of it being larger, and perhaps a thicker case, but it's not much larger overall.

No, the DJ41 is more like 39/40 so the size difference is very noticeable and then you have thickness too.

I've often thought the SkyDweller has very similar proportions to the DJ2.....from pics at least. I've never seen or tried on an SD however, but the fluted bezels of the two watches look identical.

I was at my AD checking to see if my SeaD had arrived. Yes they'll call when it does but it never hurts to stop by. Anyway we got to chatting about the Sky D and the conversation got to the point where he had to pull out the price book. He was looking all over for the SkyD section and low and behold it was included in the DJ section. So clearly lots of similarity between the two.

I'm in the same boat right now, deciding between SS skydweller or DJ41. I can be 4th on the waiting list at local AD for the SD. I tried on the PM version for reference, it wasnt so much the 42mm diameter that was big, it's the thickness of the case.. so I wouldn't say it's a similar of watch. It depends on what kind of piece you're looking for.
DJ41 more elegant, Skydweller is a statement piece. Still waiting to see the SS blue model but don't think the thickness is any different. Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk |
