BLRO GMT vs Smurf Sub

I'm considering flipping my 36mm YG DayDate & SubC for one of these but change my mind daily. I prefer the bezel on the GMT, but prefer the Sub as a watch over the GMT - help!

I love GMT's and own one 16710, but I would take the Smurf over the BLRO any day of the week. The blue face on the Sub is just so perfect. It's just a beautiful watch. Onl the other hand the red/blue bezel on the BLRO just, for whatever reason, does not "wow" when you see it in person. It's a nice watch but it doesn't have that stunning look of the Smurf. The smurf is just really special IMO

See I've seen people saying the GMT needs to be seen in person to really be appreciated, I'm guessing it's the same with the Smurf!

I just got a BLNR, but the Smurf would be my choice, it’s really really nice.

BLNR, I much prefer the sunburst for blue dials.

It looks really nice in person, I just saw one the other day, but I don't know what it is. I guess to me it just doesn't strike me as a PM model. The red side of the bezel in particular doesn't seem sharp. The red on my 16710 is mich better. But there's something special about the Smurf. Maybe the simplicity of it. The glidelock is something to consider of you are on the fence too.

I didn't read WG as his preference, I think the YF Sub is spectacular. the YG GMT also but the blue on the sub out performs the black GMT......... if you do go WG I would probably say the BLRO.

of course if I read the title I would know better, ignore me, I'm slow and prefer YG.

The glidelock & simplicity of the Sub vs the GMT are 2 benefits the smurf has.

I didn't say but I'd definitely like something WG. I've only had the DD for 6 months but I don't wear suits/shirts and it's almost too loud to enjoy wearing - it's the only watch that gets noticed/commented on in the office.

Try them both and buy the one you like. If you search this comes up every couple of months, a slower frequency than the standard sub vs GMT debate due to the PM cost I venture.

Generally a better discount is possible on the BLRO due to being a slower seller it seems.

Both are fantastic! But very different aside from the clasp. I’d definitely see both in person. If you’re expecting vibrant colors on the BLRO ...they’re not. They are nice, but just not like the SS original. The blue on the Sub is gorgeous, but you certainly should like blue...as it’s the dial/bezel combo, so very vibrant. (Especially in the sun) I made the same choice a while ago and chose the Sub. Maybe sometime down the road I’d addd the GMT again, but to pick only one...it’s blue for me.

I'm all about utility, don't dive anymore, and use the GMT complication all the time, so the BLRO was a no-brainer for me. I also love the marque history and the piece's aesthetic throwback to the 6542.

They're actually very much like the colors of the SS original (6542), just a bit more muted than garish colors of that watch's successors.

Unless the GMT function is necessary, the SMURF is the better choice (imho)! I say this about the Daytona too. Too complicated.

I find it to be the perfect ONE WATCH solution EVERY DAY.

Simplicity, durability and a beautiful watch to boot. Imagine wearing it every single day.

I like the Smurf, but it is missing just one thing, sunburst dial, to make it perfect. So I will go with BLRO

Get the BLRO and keep your subc. Maybe some delayed gratification if you have to save for the proceeds the subc trade would yield. Your left with two uniquely terrific pieces.

Two fantastic watches. I owned an 116619LB previously and got bored of it. Just picked up an 116710BLRO yesterday and love it. Hopefully I won't grow bored of the WG GMT like I did with the Sub. The GMT has more contrast and is a true Rolex icon. You can't go wrong either way but my recommendation would be the 116710BLRO :)

When I first read this, my head was saying the GMT, but I have to say I would do the WG Sub in this case

You are not alone in feeling that way about BLRO.

It is a high priced PM model, with Pepsi bezel to boot, so by definition it checks every box for many if not all Rolex lovers.

But...

There is just something about it that keeps me from going 'wow' when I see it in person too.

I posted about an event at our local AD a couple of weeks ago and shared pictures. In this picture you can see the BLRO next to BLNR (which I own). As I was standing there looking at the beauties, I thought to myself that if I walked in here not knowing one is WG vs. SS, which one I would pick? It would have been the BLNR for me. I wanted to like BLRO more than BLNR... but as I was standing there looking at them side by side, I was thinking to myself that deep inside, if I am being totally honest with myself, somehow I preferred the looks of the BLNR over BLRO.

I would still LOVE to have one... I will still gladly trade in my BLNR to pick one up, because it is a better watch no doubt... I even don't know if I would take Smurf over BLRO.. probably not... but that wow is not there for me either.

Smurf, that blue is dazzling. BLRO is even more muted than BLNR.

Tough call, I'd probably go with the 619. The glidelock clasp breaks this tie for me.
