1 Rolex or 2 Omega's

I've been trolling for quit sometime just trying to learn as much as possible about Rolex watches. I'm finally in a place in life to purchase a Rolex. However I was thinking what if I just bought 2 Omegas instead. I'm having a very hard time deciding which route to go. I've already decided if I purchase a Rolex it be the GMT Batman. If it were two Omegas the Speed Master Moon Watch would be one and I'm undecided on the other. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Omega, although a superb timepiece, is no Rolex. Regardless of how many you can buy in lieu of a single Rolex of your choosing, your itch will go unscratced.

I wanted a Submariner but talked myself into a Speedmaster instead. Needless to say I had added a Sub within a year or so...Just get what you really want to start. If you buy the Omega, you will still want the BLNR.

My latest mantra with watches is "no more half measures". I no longer waste money on watches that aren't "it". Get the real deal and be happy.

Same answer as in your other thread...

The thing about true grails is that they won't stop nagging at you. You only think that you'll be able to live with the two other watches instead of the BLNR. For me it wouldn't be the BLNR but trust me whether you get it now or later you'll still be wanting it and eventually you'll get it. Best to get it now and avoid trading and losing on the trades.

Pretty unfair comparison...such different watches in so many ways. I think you need to try them and see what's important to you (complication wise) and looks better on your own wrist. Hard to answer this question otherwise...on the bright side, the BLNR and the Speedy are both very strong pieces in their own right. So you really can't lose.

^ yea totally makes sense. I purchased a Bluesy last trying to cure the "itch" for yellow gold. I really wanted a solid YG Blue Sub but the added $$ (basically more than double the price) made me settle for the TT Bluesy. It has been almost a year since I got the Bluesy and am still dreaming of the solid YG Sub. I will most likely in the next year flip my TT for the SG piece.

Dont settle save for what you want and get that it will def be worth it in the end.

Now if your dream watch is an Omega that is fine as well and get that. But if your first thought is Rolex, well getting an Omega will not cure that itch my friend.

This coming from a BLNR owner as well. It is a superb watch and a joy to wear. I will never get rid of it.

No matter what you get you’re eventually going to want something else. If you go 2 Omega’s get the Speedy Pro and a Seamaster. Then you’ll want a Batman.

If you get a Batman eventually you’re going to start eyeing an AP Jumbo, PP Nautilus, or an ALS whatever.

Asking such a question here, Rolex Forum speaking of, is a bit obsolete, don't you think so? Ask the same question at OF and you will get an entirely different answer. Which means majority o answers you get are in one way or another biased. So decide by yourself, both timepieces you speak master the art of time in their own way, so you won't go wrong with either. But surely enough if you keep on lurking here and possible at OF you will end up getting both. Just a piece of advice. Now you have the chance to get Speedy 60th. That is an awesome one, limited edition and a part of getting piece you would be proud with you have it there as a good investment as well.

The best way is to get both: BLNR and SMP (Moon Watch). I have both now, and I wear BLNR as a daily beater, although the chronograph with no date function on SMP cannot draw my attention anymore.

I'd like to own both a Speedmaster and a Seamaster before I am through buying watches but it was always clear to me that the Submariner was the one that I wanted first, and that probably at least the next 2 or 3 would also be Rolex models.
I like IWC also but like the Omegas they are a bit further down the priority list.
Two watches you like a lot will never substitute for one you absolutely love.
(just make sure that particular GMT is "The One" as sometimes an early infatuation rapidly turns to disinterest.)

I remember vividly the day my cousin asked me for my opinion on buying his first nice watch. I asked him what he was intending to buy and what his budget was. He wanted an IWC mark 17 back then, and I asked him to stretch his budget to buy an explorer one instead. He ended up stretching his budget even further by purchasing the GMTIIc. My little cousin brother is now still a happy man several years down the road.

So with that said, I would go GMT BLNR instead of 2 Omegas. You can always buy the Omega at a later date. Not that I don't like Omegas, I love them and I wear my Speedmaster pro with pride. If it's for your first watch, I would go Rolex first. I wish I did.

Good luck and do post your incoming.

Haha. I've seen some dumb things on this forum. This is up there.

As many would tell you OP, no amount of watches will ever compare to the one that you truly want.

You shouldn't be trying to buy two just because you can for the price of one other.

If you really love the BLNR, get it. 10 omegas won't satisfy you if you really want something else.

If you really love the moonwatch, get that. It has been and will be around a lot longer than the blnr.

Get the one you want the most.

With all that said and pricing aside, the moonwatch is one of the most iconic watches in history. Of course isn't doesn't compare to the quality of the blnr, but that's not the point.

omega's are often overlooked on this forum. They are awesome watches.

With that said, If it were me I would get one nice watch. Like a 39m explorer, or a 5 digit sea dweller. The batman is too shiny for my taste.

Don't buy the overhyped BNLR but a Submariner as your first Rolex.

As I just wrote on another thread I bought a Breitling and Omega at great prices last year but they didn't last as they just weren't what I really wanted. Similarly if you really want a PP then two Rolexes just won't cut it.
