GMT Master P-Serial for $5,500

Hey all,
I have the opportunity to purchase a Pepsi P-Serial without box and papers for $5,500. Original owner says it was serviced in 2006 by RSC. The watch was used as a daily beater, and bracelet has some stretch. The clasp doesn't click close as it needs the oysterlock to shut it. It's fitted for a very small wrist, and would need to buy an extra link. Is this a good buy?

Thanks for all your feedback.

I would say yes; pricing on these has gone up (as you are aware). Any pics?

Find one similarly priced on wathrecon...basic luminova dials/lug hole GMT II's without box and papers are being listed at 6,500-7,100.

For 5,500 the op can get a good deal and send it LAWW to have them freshen it up and be money ahead.

$5.5 doesn't make me run for my wallet.

bracelet is overaged even for the year ($500 for repair or $1500 for replacement)
assume it needs a service (its due as it seems to be a 24/7 - $1200 max)
no boxes or papers ($500 on resale)
add links ($50 ea oem)
possible oysterlock replacement ($700)

the initial buy may seem low, but the operating cost may also become very high.

i'd go up another $1k and source a much better one with all you need (unless thats all you need).

or you can also just get any better GMT 5d in ss and buy an oem bezel insert.

Price seems good for a nice looking watch from those pics.....case looks very strong and if you want it recut slightly to look brand new it's a top candidate. Would make a great wearer IMO.

New clasp for a 78790 is $525 (not $700). I bought one from Rolex recently.

That said, I agree with your general sentiment. Would rather spend a little more for much better condition and full set. That bracelet is in especially rough shape.

Totally agree; I’m not impressed either. Save/spend another $1K and get one in better shape.

Or negotiate a lower price than $5500 if this is the one you want.

Tend to agree with CJ here. Probably a fair price but not great. She needs some love. Everything is there, but to return it to glory it will cost a bit and could put you in the range of mint condition price.

Personally I like to take these on, not for the $ return but for the fun of restoring a watch.

Other choice is to just wear it as is once you get the bracelet sorted out. Couple links won't cost much. I would wear that. Great for a dialy.

All of the scratches are superficial and would buff right out if you desired. As to the clasp not locking, that too is a simple fix by bending the deployant blade slightly.

Bracelet links are pretty worn judging from large gaps between links. I would pass and look for a better example complete with all bracelet links and box, booklets and accessories. They are out there.

It's not a good or bad price. I would try and ask for 5200 or 5k

I'm most picky about having a good case. I'd be happy with this piece. As for the wear and tare, that's all superficial. Send it to someone like LAWW and for about $1000 you'd have a piece you could probably get $7k for all day, and for most I see at that price point they're over polished. Good buy in my book.

Update: Thank you for all the feedback. I decided to pass on this one, and spend a little more for a complete set with box and papers. Thanks again!

maybe I just got lucky, but I just bought a p-serial 16713 in much better condition for $6300 (watch only). The gold alone is worth more than the $800 difference and the bracelet looks almost new. I know people love that pepsi, but I couldn't justify that price
