Go for the manual wind Speedmaster but may I suggest to wait a few months and buy one of the upcoming LE " 50 years Apollo 11 " version... available spring-summer 2019

I was like the original poster. The speedmaster never pulled me in from afar. But after reading more about it I purchased the manual wind, hesalite classic 42 and LOVE it. I don't have a huge collections (Rolex Sub, Speedy, GS Snowflake and an El Primero Heritage) but I wear the speedy 90% of the time. It's such a versatile watch. Casual, business casual, and even dressed up it looks great.

You are right, professional speedmaster, manual wind, 42mm, hesalite, aka Moonwatch.

Did the OP ever buy one?

I was fascinated with the speedmaster ever since Apollo 13 the movie!

Saw it when i was really young, loved space at the time, loved the watches they wore. Thought they looked really "cool". Grandad was a watch/clockmaker which is why i noticed.

I saved up and bought something similar, before i could afford an actual speedy.

The first one was a classic, speedy pro, hesalite on leather.

Then i proceeded to buy a few CK's / FOIS and most recently the LE 1958 broad arrow.

I'm so lucky to have such a variety of different speedys now, all have a different character and i think they are incredible watches.

I love the personality of them and the fact you have to wind them every morning.

Great watches, will always own them and never sell.
