Second watch ideas?

Hi gents, new to the forums.

I currently own a 2017 white dial ceramic Daytona and adore it. My only other watch is a 1990 Cartier Panthere which my father gave me and seldom wear as it is very dressy and very feminine.

I have enough to buy a vintage Datejust and keep considering this and the Explorer 1.

Does anyone have either the Daytona and DJ/Explorer 1 and enjoys/regrets having both? Clearly I love the Daytona, but wanted something to rotate it with. My other thought was to buy a Breitling Navitmer as I've always loved it.

Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the Daytona and welcome to TRF. Not sure how important a date is to you, but a SUbC or GMT would be a nice fit.

Last month I picked a Daytona and have been wearing it every day since. I find my self asking my wife every other day "what's todays date"? I think she thinks I'm loosing it.

Good luck

Second watch ideas?

The Daytona is a classic. A Rolex icon. How about another iconic Rolex? 16710 GMT2 anyone? Maybe add a touch of color.

I have both the DaytonaC and Explorer (newest lume 369)... both purchased this year. Great combo. If going vintage a 1016 would be awesome or a good vintage GMT II.

All excellent choices, I would keep Cartier for sentimental reasons. Maybe changing strap on Cartier could return it back to life and bring memories while wearing it. Back to Rolex, I do not own Daytona (though it is on my list), but own Explorer an love it. Since you already have white dial chronograph, I would recommend looking for new Sub and compare it with Explorer. Navitimer is a nice choice too, but if you go that route, you will end up with 2 chronographs...Outside of Sub and Explorer, look at GMT. If you choose go with other brands, IWC, Panerai are good brands to look at too.

Edit: Tudor would be a great choice too, some of the members have recently shared pics of their new Tudors, really excellent watch(es).

Either a Submariner or GMT would be a decent option.

Since you have a chronograph and a white dial I would look at the Submariner-C ND, 114060. Great watch and a classic design. If the funds are not there, I would look to a Tudor Black Bay Black. Either ETA movement or the new in-house movement. The Black Bay also looks great on the NATO provided or leather.

you have a white face watch with no date and polished center links.

look at the black face 42mm explorer 2 and pay no more than $6200 for it BNIB.

you'll get the floating gmt hand, 42mm size, brushed oyster band and will match anything/fly under the radar unlike a blnr or LV sub.

A lot of good choices under 3k, I have A Tudor Ranger as my work/beater, new @ 2200+ or a vintage Datejust is nice, I have a 1977, or EXP I or 2 and don't forget AirKing is just cool IMO, I have one and can't take it off.

I'd get the one that you prefer the most but I think all three are great choices. I've had the Navitimer world for a few years now and love it..

Maybe consider a SS/Plat Yacht Master? Lot of bang for your buck on the preowned market

The thing about Breitlings, make sure you buy it right. Resell can be painful otherwise. This shouldn’t be the only factor, but it should be considered.

My first thought would be to get something with the date function since the daytona doesn't have it. I have a milgauss and almost everyday out of habit I look at my watch for the date and it's not there, so my next piece will definitely have a date function.

Tough one. I like the EXP to better pair up with the Daytona to give you some diversity, but the DJ is hard to beat for an all rounder.

For me it boils down to the date. If you're the type that needs/wants it, then get the DJ. If not, go completely dateless with the EXP.

Gents, many thanks for the welcomes and all your input.

I visited a preowned watch store today to view the beauties. The women there were nice too.

I initially looked at the Yachtmasters, GMTs and Subs, however they are more expensive than DJs and also sport watches like my Daytona C.

I have narrowed my choice down to a DJ or Explorer 1, both being similar. My next question is, am I likely to regret buying a vintage 70s or 80s DJ than a more modern version? The modern versions are heavier but look very similar. From what I understand, if the watch has been serviced correctly, a vintage Rolex is as good as any for everyday use.
