The Explorer is a wonderful watch. I've been wearing my first Rolex, the Explorer ii for 10 years, now I have the Explorer. I have to say, it's a very very nice change. Going from a date to no date sets you free.

I thought after getting the Daytona, I would be contented enough not to dream of another Rollie. I was wrong! The Explorer keeps coming to my mind.
Now, it seems to me that I would not be contented unless I have the Explorer! I believe it is due to the beauty of its evergreen classic yet sporty look! |

Great review and comments guys. You described everything I love about the Explorer. I bought my first Rolex (an Explorer) 8 days ago to celebrate my 15th wedding anniversary. I absolutely love it and have literally thanked my wife for it everyday so far.
In the short time I've had it, I have worn the watch doing everything from weeding my garden to going to the theatre. For me, it is the perfect go anywhere, do everything watch. I am very pleased to know that one day, it will be passed down to one of my boys. I couldn't help but take a picture of it while picking blueberries with my wife and kids today. My wife laughs at me, but she knows how much this watch means to me. |

Great review and great subject ofcourse! I was on the line a week ago, but i left the AD with the new milgauss. I love the explorer I, but i can't seem to understand the short H hand and the long M hand. I love the beauty of the watch, the bracelet, i only don't like the polished bezel. But in every case - great great watch, maybe someday..

As many have said, the OP was a very balanced and thoughtful review. I'm sure it will be read for quite some time, by anyone considering the Explorer model...a watch btw I can't speak more highly of. Here's my 114270:

Great review. I own a 36mm Explorer 1 (it's been less than a week) and your review totally resonates with my brief experience so far! Thanks for this.

Simply beautiful . But I have never owned a watch without a date and I'm just not sure how much I would miss it...
Thanks for the great review, OP. |

Now, your sentence above, however true it may be, is heresy! You should be flogged, banned and anything else we can do to you! DO NOT EVER tell my wife your thoughts in that regard pertaining to ANY watch!

This write-up may be just what I needed to tip me over to buy the Explorer 1 instead of the Submariner, its a hard decision.

It is quite possibly the perfect Rolex IMO. Wonderfully comfortable to wear, flies under the radar & can be worn with a tux, suit or jeans. I love mine..

I just think its perfect, the 36mm was way to small for me but the 39mm is fantastic fit and just as comfortable as my Sub, now that is saying something.

For a sport watch is too dressy, for a dress watch is a little bit sporty, it let you transition from business to the gym to the bar with no problem.
It's a wonderful watch. |

Fantastic writeup, great balance of fact and personal opinion. I think the personal touches really flesh out the impression when they're presented in authentically and honestly. Oddly, this review solidifies my desire to own a 114270... :D

I have had a 16613ln, a 16570 and now my 214270, It is the best daily wearer in my collection and my favorite watch (at least until i can afford a 116618lb) and also the only one that I can see myself never parting with!
