Back to Kauai January 2022

In November of 2020, we visited Kauai and I shared my experience with the forum. Members who volunteered information made our trip nicer.

This is our Fourth trip to Kauai in 4.5 years. It's a great and special place.

We provided documentation that showed we were both fully vaccinated and because of that, bypassed the quarantine requirement. They also have an option for testing results but as we were fully vaccinated we were not required. It was one of the three:fully vaccinated, negative test results or quarantine.

I look forward to sharing more of what we discover with the forum.

I welcome all comments and suggestions!!

Our first stop was to a place that was recommended by a forum member in 2020. It's called The Fish Express and the thing to get is Spicy Tuna and Crab Poke. It's fantastic!!

Kauai is my favorite of the Hawaiian Islands. Hubs prefers Maui. Where are you staying? We always stay at the Hyatt in Koloa.

KathleenL. Many thanks for asking. The last three times we stayed in Kapaa at an oceanfront place now called The ISO which is right next to what is now the Sheraton. It's my favorite place. Think of it as an anti-resort.

This trip I had to change time and islands because of difficult life circumstances. So we are in a rustic motel called the Tip Top motel and Cafe in Lihue. It opened in 1916 so it's now more than 105 years old!!! We are here for 10 days 9 nights and we prefer a simple place for a much longer time. If you look closely, I have a Tudor not a Rolex....lol

Wailua Falls. We have seen it many times. It was the first thing we saw on Kauai in June 2017 on our first trip. It's always nice to see and a special reminder of the natural beauty of this amazing paradise.

It's also very famous for being prominently featured in the opening credits of the TV series "Fantasy Island ".

We saw the Ninini Point Lighthouse at the entrance to Nawiliwili Harbor for the first time. What an amazing location!! We saw the sunset, as well as several Humpback Whales frolicking, jumping in the air and Spouting. In addition we also saw the famous Hawaiian Nene Geese for the very first time!! What an amazing time!! Pics to follow.

Mr. Hedley!!

Aloha!!

All I can tell you is that it's a real miracle we are here. Had to overcome a lot of real life circumstances to be here.

Yesterday was one of our nicest days here.

Of course we remembered your recommendation and after the amazing sunset at Ninini Point Lighthouse you can just guess where our next stop for dinner was:

Oh man. Living vicariously though you, Doug5551.

My son and I were there years ago when they got 20+ inches of rain in a day or two. It put a crimp on some of our diving, but it was a great trip, aside from that.

It's a bummer, though, that they funky burger joint I was going to recommend has shut down. Duane's Ono Char-burger.

Today we got to visit the Kauai Museum for the second time. We were there for 3.5 hours! My favorite was a recreation of a ceremonial royal cape and helmet/headdress made out of feathers!!

Dinner was at our favorite Chicken in a Barrel, the best, smokiest chicken ever!! It was our first meal on Kauai in June 2017.

Oh, it's been too long since we've been to Hawaii - especially to Kauai! For many years we went twice a year, either March or April and then again in September. Loved your shopping cart photo! I think I need to place an order with Maui Cook Kwees! (https://mauicookkwees.com/) When we'd go to Maui, we'd always go to their "factory" and Hubs and I would each have a dozen packages sent to our respective coworkers. And, of course, we'd always buy a bunch to snack on ourselves. They're so good.

And the roosters! They are all over the place. Bunches of them at the Waimea Canyon...

Fun facts - Kauai is the only island with navigable rivers, and there are no snakes in Kauai.

Enjoy every moment of your trip. It's a magical place, for sure.

Wonderful! We honeymooned there over 30 years ago, which was my first trip to Hawaii ever. We did not return to Kauai again until 2007, with our then-preschool age children.

Kauai is gorgeous and low-key. We’ve since done trips with and without kids to Maui a few times, and the two of us went to the Big Island just in October (first trip to that island). Your photos reminded me that we should plan to visit Kauai again.

Have fun!

Thank you for your comments.

We may be going to Waimea Canyon tomorrow.

We did a guided trip up the Wailua River in two person kayaks for about 45 minutes until it ended in a tributary and then hiked a muddy jungle trail to beautiful Secret Falls. Wailua River is the only navigable Hawaiian River you are referencing.

Hope you make it back to Kauai one day!! Today is our 32 day on Kauai over our 4 trips!!

Fantastic photos, great to see you're back in Kauai for 2022! My family and I have fond memories of everything you shared including the stop at Fish Express (that was me btw on the rec, but unsure if I used this screenname or a prior one I lost access too but glad to see you enjoyed the local spot!). Waimea Canyon is fantastic, my wife and I actually prefer it to the Grand Canyon due to how lush it is.

Many thanks for sharing, and look forward to how the rest of your trip ties off.

On our first evening here while we were at Ninini Point Lighthouse we were fortunate to see a group of Humpback Whales Spouting, jumping and playing in the ocean just off shore. It was our first time to see whales in Kauai!! The cell phone pics aren't much but in real life the performance was absolutely amazing!!

Then we got lucky and saw a pair of rare, endangered Hawaiian Nene Geese.

What a great place to see natural beauty!!
