Got the call - First AP!

Hey guys,

Got the call on Friday and dropped everything to make the 8 hour round trip drive to pick up my new piece. I am over the moon as I was told two weeks prior that it wouldn't be possible to get one this year. The quality and finish is out of this world, and I don't see this being the only AP I add to my collection.

Obligatory picture from drive back home

Edit: Imgur issues, see below lol...

Congrats! Looks great on you, and what a way to break it in on a nature trail! Was this your first piece from the boutique?

Thank you! I don't know if it has a name - I checked maps and didn't see anything. It's on private property off the backroad I was on.

Appreciate it! It was indeed my first, I had worked with another boutique for about a year prior to switching over (no purchases at previous boutique). I had a few other pieces of interest listed, but the 15500 (now 15510) was my number 1.

Amazing and congrats! Could you share how you went about switching boutiques? I am in a similar position.

I met with the first boutique while traveling, and had a great experience in person. We didn't have a boutique within a reasonable distance at the time, so I told them I would be willing to fly out if anything were to become available. I called every 3-4 months to chat and check in. On my third reach out, she was very abrupt and rude and told me that I wouldn't be able to get anything on my list (mostly ROOs and the black 15500) without "building a relationship" with her, which was a total 180 from our previous conversations, maybe she was having a bad day?

This April, wife and I took a day trip and walked past the AP boutique on our way to lunch. Decided to not pop in, but the wife pushed me while we were eating. Decided to go in, told them I was working with another boutique with a less than pleasurable experience. They suggested I switch to them instead and asked for my list. It was a night and day difference. He checked in with me frequently, and called me a few times to chat.

Ultimately it was complete chance, I honestly didn't even know the town had a boutique. Really shows that you have nothing to lose by going in and talking to people.

Congrats. Black is very underrated yet the green gets all the love, but IRL the green is very black in many light conditions.

Thanks! Right? I've always wanted the black over the blue, and when I saw the green come out a few months ago, I kind of went back and forth but ultimately settled on the black still.

That’s funny Gary because at first glance I was 80% sure this was black, but did wonder if it was green. The previous green Rolex sub (the hulk) before the current model, used to look black in certain lights. It was one of the things I liked about it at the time. Green dials can look black. I also took a few pictures of new Green chrono when I tried it on and the dial looked black in one of them.

That said my new blue 15510 also looks black in some lights, as well as a light blue too. AP dials are very special in my opinion

I only saw the green on steel last week for the first time. I thought it was black until the sun hit it.

No wrong choices, just personal preference interlaced with an unhealthy dose of peer pressure and other peoples' opinions most of the time. Those that are true to themselves are the happiest :)

With AP I've recognised that the smaller the tapisserie the more the variation in colour I notice. Perhaps that's just my perception and not reality but that's at least how it appears to me.

Exactly right and why I checked it was the black dial as the green certainly photographs quite dark as you said Stephen.

No doubt that the black tapisserie dial is nicely complex and interesting for an AP compared to others out there with a black dial.

Sincere congratulations! Great story, and I’m glad the second boutique’s SA was able to make up for the extreme rudeness of the first SA!
This looks marvelous on you.

That is awesome. It is eerie how similar your negative experience was to mine. I too had a really great first meeting with the SA who entered me into the system and created a list for me. I got a call a few weeks later for a CODE (one that wasn't on my list) and passed on it. I scheduled an in person meeting a few weeks later to catch up and that's when the 180 occurred and was told basically the same thing you were. Right now trying to figure out the best boutique to switch to that makes sense for where I live and travel habits.

Very nice! I was also impressed by the finishing on my first AP that I recently purchased. I couldn't stop staring at it lol.
