I don't think that is what was meant. IMHO, leaving the chrono running does cause excessive wear (lubricated or not).

Please define "excessive wear" and explain the long term impacts in lost dollars or reduction in lifetime years of service.
Also please show that a 10 year $750 RSC movement service that replaces worn out components doesn't rectify "excessively worn" components for the same cost as a lubrication-only service of a 10 year old NOS watch. There are a lot of anthropomorphic feel good let it sleep let it rest type "common sense" statements that can be made but static friction of start up and shut down is metal on metal and is far more damaging than gliding along a properly lubricated surface. If you aren't going to wear the watch then don't keep it wound because that's pointless, not because your orbita is excessively wearing it down. That is nonsense. The issue of watch winder discussions is that good winders are never considered in the discussion. Only straw man constant winders that turn 10,000 times a day and wear out the clutch are compared to "letting it rest" when not in use. So the discussion continues forever.
