Avoiding getting ripped off?
Twice now I’ve gotten excited someone wants to buy my watch. Ones message disappeared by the time I went from my email to the site. The other asked to use email. I then came to the conclusion it was a phishing attempt after he sent a link back to the site that I was logged out of and read the thread posted here about it
I’m worried if I do sell my watch I’m going to get taken for $10,000. Any tips on how to avoid being scammed on a transaction like this? If someone wires me the money there’s no way for them to reverse it after I mail the watch right? |

You better change your passwords now, yes that is a total fraud red flag. No, once a Fed wire is sent it cannot be reversed. Where the "wire" is sent from is another story.

Thanks.
I clicked the link but didn’t enter anything. When I saw I was logged out red flags went up and I checked the real site. Still logged in. What do you mean pull money from bank? Physically remove $10,000? Or just make sure the wire went through? |

OP, I look forward to these replies. I've been wondering the same. I dont sell too many watches, but for some reason my current listing is really attracting some scammers.
I have also wondered the security of wired funds and being able to be "taken back" by the bank, including Zelle or any of the other new payment methods. |

1. Check references. Do your due diligence before committing to the transaction.
2. Verify with your bank that money has be received. Do not rely on the wire appearing in a "pending" state as that means nothing! 3. Search forums and web for name, email address, shipping address, etc. 4. Use your best judgment- if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is! Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk |

You may want to update your FS thread to include payment terms and conditions.

In many cases there are no references. Even for me, I haven’t sold a watch before so I have none *♂️
So as long as the bank confirms the wire transfer it cannot be taken back right? I’m going to create a better FS thread. Thanks. |

I can't help much because I've only sold watches to close friends and resellers. I lose money but the peace of mind is priceless.

I have never sold a watch on a forum but as others have said...due diligence. Do your homework on the buyer, try to authenticate them through work email address, linkedin, social media and drivers license. Google is definitely your friend. Especially if payment is anything other than wire. Good luck.

Wires are pretty safe. I have accepted many bank wires but always do my due diligence first - this is from Quora
Indeed, a wire transfer, in most cases, cannot be reversed. Some fraudulent wire transfers made from accounts, which do not have the funds on them, can be called off by the bank. ... Beside that, in some cases, particularly, if the bank still holds the transfer amount, you, technically can attempt to reverse it. |

I would never buy a watch that was not new, so I guess I can't see selling my used watches, as who would want them? At some point they will be passed on, recycled or sold back to AD. If I don't want a watch for the duration, I don't buy it. Explains why I only have a few lower-end SS models. $15K on watches is plenty unless something else really catches my eye.
