Sauna at home.

Anyone? Thinking about building a outside cedar sauna. Looking for suggestions pros and cons?

TIA

You're in Vegas, no? Can't you just stand outside to sweat?

I had one in my house on Vancouver Island. It was an old electric heated style that took an hour to warm up. Consequently, I used it twice in 2.5 years. I think the new infrared models heat up a touch faster, but still require a bit more planning ahead than my busy schedule would allow.

If you think you might have the time to plan enough in advance, you might use it. To me, not worth the expense when I can simply go to my club (in normal times).

Interesting! Thanks JD. I'll investigate the timelines.

I actually prefer the restorative feeling from a hot tub more than a sauna. Although a sauna probably costs less to operate.

But I'm sure for both, lots of people have them and never use either.

Just love a good session in a really nice sauna. We do have a hot tub that doesn't see much time....Also, I built a small in ground pool, the wife calls a 40 person roman tub! My Koki boy was the first in the pool every opening day! He was a swimmer!

I'm thinking of locating the sauna near the pool area, for easy access to both?

Keep in mind, my carpentry skills have been honed over 40+ yrs....I do have practically every tool made....With my labor deducted, the cost is about half of the retail for an equal sized sauna. But I do have to study these heating delay times like above....

I didn’t know that, Kevin. I thought Vegas was your home.
Where in PA are you? My son is a Penn State, although he’s home now due to the virus and graduates in May.

Hi John,

We are very lucky to have found an old circa 1721 Stone Historic Farm house in need of a complete renovation, back in the early 90's. We're in Buckingham PA, many have heard of nearby New Hope PA (our zip code).

Your son is at the main campus? Great school!!! Keep him home and safe for a while longer!

Hi Don,

Google Finnish sauna to get some ideas. We have two saunas, one at home and one at weekend house by the sea. Use them almost every day around the year. Wood heated stove is the best what you can get. Trust me, we are sauna freaks here in Finland

Not at home but put one on the office gym. I don't really use it because my ADHD wont let me sit there for more than a minute and its too hot to use your iphone but the employees LOVE it. Gets way more use than I ever thought it would. Its infrared so heats quickly and gets HOT. Its a 6 person one but usually only 1 or 2 people use it at a time.
