A 1665 that made its way back to Jerusalem
I had the pleasure of being apart of this gift from father to son. Father purchased this back in 1978 from Jerusalem.
Many years later he contacting us needing to get it serviced. The father knew very little about the watch and its value. After informing him with its key characteristics and monetary value, he began to tear up telling me that he is about to visit his son (who now happens to live in Jerusalem) to pass it down. After all of those years, the watch is making its way home. Beautiful 1665 Rail dial with a complete service and to top it off, I NOS period crystal. |

Stunning piece! Are those the original hands? Interesting that they've aged a little differently than the tritium on the the dial.

I wanted to make a correction - the watch was purchased in Israel and is where the son is living.

Perfect in every way, and to come full circle is a particularly special "moment in time" ~

Yup. They don't always age the same and often the patina will be slightly different. That's why vintage watches that have matching patina between dial and hands are even more coveted.

Thank you for taking care of my watch.

This has always been my intention. I haven't seen my son in eight years, and after Christmas, I'm flying to visit him in Israel. I'll be wearing my watch when I sit down with him and his wife to tell him this story. I'll ask him if he remembers the watch. He'll say he does. I'll take it off, hand it to him, and tell him, "It's yours." Then I'll tell him the whole story about purchasing the watch in Tel Aviv before he was born, and I'll share with him all the photos of the two of us, photos where I'm wearing the watch. It will be a great evening. I want to thank you, Phillip, for your guidance and expertise along this journey. The watch is original to the day I purchased it in March of 1982. I'm documenting this story with photos in the Vintage Rolex Discussion thread ""Sea-Dweller 1665 Great White RAIL." Many thanks, Jerry, aka TLV1665 |

Dear Jerry,
You have great foresight to keep all parts original! The light patina stands testament to the daily journeys it made in your company. Dear Phillip, Thanks for sharing this tale and using your expertise to maintain such a pristine watch. You are a champ! |
