Both are great watches, but I'd have to say Speedmaster. I love mine...just an outstanding, classic watch.

The diver, although not crazy about that particular one.

Speedmaster hands down. Looks gorgeous on bracelet, leather, nato, rubber...fun to wind, plexiglass is the best look to me, and makes for a great conversation piece with watch lovers and non-watch lovers alike, just based on fact it is the moon watch.

Seamasters have no soul because they change the design every year. And the blatant product placement in Bond films is tacky. Having said that I will probably pick up a 2254.50 at some time in the future, its the only version I like.

I had this exact same decision a month ago. I was very close to getting the blue version of that Seamaster, chose the speedy in the end. My reasons were:

1. It is beautiful
2. Impossible to get such an icon for that price anywhere
3. This was a graduation watch so needed to be a "forever" watch, Speedy will never go out of style.
4. Ultimate versatility.
5. Seamaster Pro ceramic is a beautiful dive watch, but it is just another mid luxury dive watch. Speedy is something else.

Speedy! It's an iconic piece with tons of history.

I'm not crazy about the movement in the 300m Seamaster.

It depends, is this a one and only watch? Reason being is that I love the speedmaster over the seamaster. I think it's a legend and can compete with the best of other brands in terms of importance within the watch world. I've had a seamaster, it was a good watch, but nothing about it stands apart from the hordes of divers watches out there from different brands (I don't count James Bond, he's not a real person therefore hasn't really accomplished anything). But as a one and only Id go for the seamaster for its water resistance. I'd be more comfortable jumping in the pool or going to the beach with a seamaster than a speedmaster. I know technically you can swim with a speedmaster but without push down buttons I'm too chicken to try it. It just seems more practical.

I've never had a chrono in my rotation. I've always wondered about water resistance with these watches. Can you push the pushers while under water? I know Omega states that it is waterproof up to 50 meters, and I don't dive so the pool is as deep as it will ever go.

Both great. I'm in and out of water all the time, so would have to be seamaster for daily wearer.
if it is a special occasion watch or your in an office, speedy for sure.

50M means only shallow swimming. "50 Meters - A watch with this level of resistance is wearable around household sinks, while playing sports and while swimming in shallow water. Do not wear it while bathing, snorkeling or scuba diving."

50 meters is 150 feet. You would think snorkeling would be okay.??? If not while taking a bath, are you saying the hot temperature water may alter the watch and a possibility of water getting in?

I would choose the Speedie, I would rather have the Chrono function than just a simple 3 hander. Plus I have already owned a SMP, and I've never owned a Speedmaster.

Speedmaster. I've never liked the bracelet on that Seamaster. Could be the most comfortable bracelet on the market and I'd still think it looked out of place.

Speedy. For the record, you can swim with it, but no you cannot operate the chrono pushers while swimming (or wet). This thread is two years old by the way.

I don't like manual wind watch because it's too trouble, but there's only two pieces, so I still vote for the moon watch.

Depends what you want - chronograph? diver?

I have an Omega chrono and a Rolex Sub and sometimes think that I need them for different purposes - or not.
