"Custom" Daytona's

So what is the status of watches like this?

I'm assuming it's a real Daytona. It's a SS watch with the bezel and dial of the Platinum Daytona. Dial says Rolex... Is it a real Rolex dial/bezel from the platinum model? There are several of them on C24. Also other versions with other colors of dials that all say Rolex.

I'm assuming one can never send these into RSC but curious as to how they come about.

Yeah, it's priced accordingly. But why would someone do this to a perfectly good Daytona. Unless it is not a Daytona...

I get that part (but there are others that have all sorts of dials.)

But are these all Rolex sourced parts? They are Franken-watches?

at the end of the day, one is just making people think you have a platona when you don't.

in my opinion this is no different than just buying a replica.

How is the bezel of the SS Daytona different from the Plat?

Soooo.... If you bought one of these. Assuming it was a real Daytona under the makeup. And sent it to RSC. What would they do with it? Would they restore it to the original SS configuration and charge you for it?

I am in no way thinking of buying one. But kind of curious how they come about in the first place. Assuming the modder paid close to retail I don't see how they are coming out ahead.

Black vs dark brown. This franken looks just like a Plat but in SS.

would you rather be the “poor” guy with the white Daytona or the wannabe with the half fake “platona”...

To be completely honest, not one average person, including your friends outside of TRF who claim to know watches, have any clue how much a platona costs vs the ss Daytona... they would actually say the ss Daytona looks better too...

If you want a platona...get one, not a fake...

I don't want one of these.... I was just looking up Daytona's on C24 and a number of these came up. I don't get them. I don't see heavily modded other Rolex models; at least modded in a way to make them look like the PM versions. Considering PM is somewhat less desirable. Unless people like this color scheme. It's a curiosity.

And yeah, I know that basically NO ONE knows the model differences between what dials and bezels go with what metal. I couldn't have told you yesterday for that matter but was at an AD and they gave me this very nice hard bound catalog. We were chatting Daytona's. I liked them and decided to look them up at C24 after being given the usual information at the AD about availability.

This makes no sense. They may have started with a non-ceramic Daytona and dressed it up which I see a bunch on there.

I laugh when I see someone modding a regular Porsche 911 but the rear badge GT3. Too much wannabe, pretentious and in the end people only lie to themselves. I would pass even if it’s real dial and bezel from Rolex.

Ah. So a complete redo. Replace the metal bezel, the dial and who knows what else. Will the ceramic bezel even fit on a pre-ceramic Daytona? Do they have to mod the case?

the case would be wrong for a Platona anyway they'd need start with a WG one to even half fool anyone or a complete fake from the Rolex factory in China. its a bit like those Porsche Covin copies out there from the 80's.... ie "just no say no"
