2nd Patek Watch
Hi Guys,
I have a Patek 5980/1A and 5711 but looking to sell my 5711 to fund another patek. I'm looking for a subtle and conservative watch (people know its a patek but i dont really want to attract attention) that i could wear every day to work. Below are some of the potential candidates: 1. 5227 RG in ivory dial 2. 5164 steel 3. 5167 steel 4. 5167 RG 5. 5146 G 6. Lange 1 in white gold To give you a background im in my early 30s and I currently own 5980, 5711 (selling soon), Breguet 7727, Daytona, Ap 44 FC and Ap Diver. I would really appreciate your suggestions. Im really confused. |

5164 seems like a common answer these days but really fits the bill. Under the radar, youthful and just different enough from your outgoing 5711.

Thanks guys,
I haven't really tried on the 5164 (tried the 5167), can the 5164 be considered a dress watch? |

Hmm everyone seems to be recommending 5164.
I personally was leaning towards the 5227r. I tried it on yesterday at the AD and in my mind this is the watch im likely going to keep for a long long time. Possibly even engrave and pass it on to my son in the future. Im just worried i'll be bored of it after a few months. 5164 can definitely pass as both a dress and casual watch. You all are making me think twice hehe |

have i not own a 5980 blue dial, i would definitely keep my 5711. Prices are getting out of whack for 5711. Not sure if its a bubble, but i would play it safe and sell my 5711. Considering that 5980 is discontinued, i would think it has a greater potential for investment in the long run |

Well out the ones mentioned I have always enjoyed wearing the 5146G and R and the 64 in steel! How about the new 5205G in the Blue Dial? That looks stunning!

While not technically a dress watch, I often find myself traveling for work, and end up wearing my 5164a with a suit. Works fine. I highly recommend it

Considering your collection I'd probably choose the 5164R. I have a 5711R and 5164A and think you can have this PP RG/SS one two punch as well, also makes it more dressy.

5164A is a fantastic daily wearer. Versatile and looks good with basically anything. I wear it all the time during the week with a suit and during the weekends with sweats and athletic gear.

It really depends on whether you are looking for a dress watch or another "sporty" watch. Also depends on whether you wear a suit to work and if you are outside often in the humid SE Asian weather.
I own the 5227, 5167, 5164 and the 5146. They are all great in their own way. In humid weather, the leather strap on the 5227/5146 may wear out more easily. However in some conservative suit-wearing work settings, the 5147/5164 may be a bit sporty. However Thierry Stern wore a 5164 with a suit. So it certainly can be worn with one. |

If you are leaning toward 5227, would also consider the Lange 1... I don’t own it but it’s on my short list.
