Grand Seiko SBGR061 as a dress watch?
As some of you may know I have been doing some serious homework on various makers for a versatile dress watch (everyday casual and formal) and the current running includes the GS SBGR061, the JLC MUT Moon 39, and either Nomos Orion or Zurich. Actually, I realize my homework is getting rather redundant but necessary considering I am a recovering flipper.
I understand some of these are more versatile than others and understand the differences of all three. However, all watches appeal to me for various reasons and have been compared to many brands by myself. At $4K it would be ideal and between the price points of all I am considering. Not to mention my wife is 2nd Generation Japanese and it would be cool to have a GS heirloom. This might even help me 30 years from now sourcing parts (assuming GS can no longer service) as she speaks and writes the language. I have held all in the flesh except the SBGR061. I do know the extreme quality of the GS line in that I own a MM300 (granted not GS) and my buddy owns a GS High beat Snowflake. My only reservation is that the Grand Seiko SBGR061 comes in at 13.1mm thick. Is this an issue for those that own this watch or one with a similar case when wearing cuffs? |

Very nice watch, go for it. Regarding the height, 13.1 does not sound too bad.

Thanks for the advice, Steve! I purchased a watch through them once and will definitely get a quote if that time comes.
Unfortunately, pictures of the watch in the wild are relatively rare but here are some nice borrowed pictures. Drilled lug holes will make swaps a breeze. |

I own the sbgh013, witch is the hi-beat version, and I can confirm that you will have no problem when wearing cuffs. Grand seikos are amazing, great choice.

Agreed. A lot of watch for the money.
Always wanted a Grand Seiko. Not sure if it's true but i've read one of their handful of master GS watchmakers builds the watch from start to finish. And if that maker is still present during your service interval then they are likely to work on the piece. Pretty cool if true. |
