5712 or 5167 and Explorer II
I’m struggling with deciding whether to get a 5711 or a 5167 and a Rolex Explorer II. This will be my first PP. I like both these PP and will eventually own both but I only budgeted $30K this year for watches. I am not a flipper and don’t plan on divesting any of what I currently have (Rolex DJ 36, Rolex DJ 41, Rolex GMT 2, JLC Ultra Thin Moon, Reverso Tribute, GO Panomatic Reserve and a Panerai).
I have a very good relationship with my local AD (bought about a dozen watches over the years) and I am currently on a list for both 5711 and 5167. I was told I can reasonably expect to be offered these models within 4-6 months. What would you do? Edit: Thread title says 5712 but I actually meant 5711. Sorry for the typo. |

I’d recommend trying them on (if at all possible) as they wear very differently - especially with it being your first Patek.
Not sure what else is in your collection - but for example Patek and Rolex are VERY different in terms of wear - as is AP. I usually always say 5711 - because of the history and pedigree - but the tropical strap is fantastic for daily wear as well. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’d go 5711 given your current assortment of Rolex that you already own. 4-6 months for either is great!

1. This is going to be your first Patek Philippe 2. You already have an array of watches in your collection Taking both points into account, I think the 5711 would fit nicely into your collection rather than a 5167 + another Rolex. Do keep us posted on what you decided in the end! Steve |

5712 no question. That’s the only patek you would need on this market. Of course there are dressy options but since the dress watch is dead, market wise.
5712/1a was my first Patek. Sometimes I think I should of get that watch and stop right there. I got it right the first time , oh well . That’s my advise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

5712. But that's gonna cost you more than the 30k you budgeted.

The subject references the 5712 (which is my favorite Patek within my means) but the body of the post references 5711. Which are you considering? Just curious.

5712 for sure if that is an option. Otherwise I'd get the 5164 over the 67 and Exp.

I noticed that as well — but if the 5712 is in play — THAT is the answer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You already have a GMT, why buy an Explorer II?
5711 would be my choice, I sold a 5167 to fund mine.

It really depends on your life style. For a more active person, 5167 fits best. Rubber strap is extremely comfortable with less worry about dings, scratched etc.

No doubt 5711. Or 5712 if that was the eventual choice.

I own all three, and based on the rest of your collection I would say 5711.
I might wear the 5167 more than the 5711, but the Nautilus is the icon. It's stunning and can be worn with almost anything. If it's not the one for you you will have options. The Explorer II is a great watch, but can be had at or below MSRP. I don't foresee that changing immensely in the next few years. |

That is an easy choice:
5711 is worth 50K. 5167 + Explorer is worth 35K... |

For $30k, 5711. For $6k more, 5164, for $40k 5712. But I would also consider what you want your 2nd patek to be and plan accordingly... for example, if you like the 5712 over the 5711 but also see an aquanaut in your future, then I would get the 5167 now and put the remaining $11k toward the 5712 if you can get on a list.

I’d go 5711 for sure. I’d skip the 5167+rolex exp 2 and follow up with a 5164

5711 without a doubt! Then 5164. And that's exactly what I did.

I went with the 5167 first, as it's my favorite of the two. Currently waiting for a 5711... And I am actually happy about waiting on account of my love for the blue dial diminishing and my fondness for the white dial growing. At this point, I am feeling like I very well may have a white dial 5711 for the wrist around this time next year.
Of these two, I suggest leaving the extra watch (Rolex) out of it, and simply base the decision on the Patek you want most first.
