You are right my friend , is a beautiful watch but there a lot of wishful thinking going around and I get it , I really hope they prove the market wrong and something happens because the sport watches craziness is getting out of hand .

exactly. i did some checking on watch values in chrono24 (rolex and PP, i did not check others) and it turns out that the sports watch craze started in early spring 2018, where it took off, particularly everything (steel and gold) nautilus and aquanaut. surely steel sports watches took off steeper but also PM watches increased in value a lot. i wonder what happened in spring 2018 to start this trend? i cannot see a connection with the stock market (which was sideways at that time), so what happened? dress watches remained totally unaffected by this, even the high end is just flat....

I have one and was informed from my AD that I acquired it from that they are longer able to order... They suspect production has stopped.

My AD had told me there is shipment coming within the next few weeks in North America. Supposed to arrive before christmas/holiday shutdown but didn't come in time. If it does get discontinued there will be a final batch in January 2019 i guess.

Well I think it’s a beautiful piece and at 50- 60k US I would be a player. I prefer though more complications. At least moon phase w AC . I just bought a PC 5327 that I dearly love. It came w a really neat battery operated leather winder instead of dust gathering wood box- I have 6 of them:-). I have had the piece about 4 mos.- never had to wind it or change batteries so far- great for me. BTW has anyone else got the new winder box? Tks James

Will 5170P be discontinued? Usually platinum manual winding chronographs have short run. The 5070P I think only has a one year run. But if PP decided to discontinue 5170P, then there is no more model for 5170 series of manual winding chronograph in the catalog as all other metals have been discontinued.

5070P was produced for less than 1 year with many estimating only 175 - 200 pieces produced during that production run.

When Patek decide to discontinue the 5170P they will come up with a different manual winding chronograph as they invested on caliber CH 29-535 PS.

I think so because the Patek website is no longer showing the price.

That wil also mean there are no more pure manual winding chronographs in PP's current offerings. All earlier versions have also been discontinued.

I asked an AD today, he said it was likely to be discontinued. Then again he was suggesting me to buy the 5170P they had, before it was being discontinued. We will find out in next 2 - 3 weeks.

Also curious if this piece will be discontinued. Lenkersdorfer and Liljenquist in Tysons Corner, VA each have one in their display case, as did Tourneau (Vegas) a few months ago.

These seem to be readily available but I love this reference. If discontinued, might not be so readily available for long... Sadly, this one is a major stretch for me financially at this point in my life. Could pull it off, but not sure any FA would deem it a prudent decision.

5170P is everywhere, there is at least one at every AD that I have been to, domestic or abroad. Maybe it is best Patek discontinue it since it is not selling anyways, and might help its value.

With that said, as I have said it before, it is a good looking watch.

I think it’s the most beautiful modern Patek reference.
