Buying experience on Chrono24?

Hi everyone,

In my search to buy my first Rolex 16610 that is within my budget, keeping away from ebay I stumbled across Chrono24. Reading from other forums I understand it is only a platform that offer no protection from dodgy sellers using their website.

Has anyone experienced trading in chrono24? Favourable/unfavourable outcome?

Thanks in advance for sharing and your insights.

You've come to the worlds best Rolex forum to ask about buying on another?

I'm sorry, but chrono 24 has nothing on us :)

It is a legit question

Sure this site is better than others. It's the best place to check someone's reputation. The question was reasonable.

(Sorry I never used Chrono24 and can't help on that.)

Don't need to remind you that researching is about looking at all options then making an informed decision. Did I say I was going to buy from Chrono24? Was merely asking for insights and obviously your comment was worthless peace!

As a matter of fact there is more protection buying on ebay (PAYPAL) , where there is
Zero on Chrono24...

How could someone possibly generalize purchases on a site like chrono24...
Each seller is different. You're not buying a watch from chrono24, you're
Buying from a rando who posted on chrono24. I'm sure there are some
Great sellers there. My point was to tell you that if you're simply looking for
16610, you should be buying from one of the many countless respected
Sellers here. No offense intended, but this is the place to purchase Rolex.

There are a number of highly regarded sellers who advertise on Chrono24.

They have their own web sites, Ebay stores and even bricks and mortar stores.

There are also individual sellers who advertise there.

Deal with an impeccable seller and you're golden. That applies everywhere, not just on Chrono24 or here.

As far as I am aware Chrono24 are just a "sales aggregate" site where hundreds of thousands of adverts around the world are pooled.

A bit dodgy IMHO. You need to pick your seller carefully as this site offers little protection.

Totally agree Welsh. Ascertain the seller before the watch. Read about a horrendous stories of a couple of brits getting scammed by some Italian sellers at Chrono24....

Cheers guys!

Bought a new rolex through chrono24 this year (Italian grey market seller with own website) and got a great price and great service. Watch was with me in a few days after I transferred the money. Did email different sellers to get a bit of a feeling. Like the others say...go for someone with a good reputation

For what it's worth, I've just concluded my second transaction in as many months with one of the trusted sellers here (DavidSW). I did my homework, decided on the model & PM'd him directly with a request for the references I was interested in. He responded almost immediately with a price that was better than best I could find anywhere for the same product (there are many sellers selling pieces with questionable documentation; not a route I'm looking to take). Service and communication were outstanding. I've seen similar reviews on several of the other prolific trusted sellers here

Chrono24 is a good place to check on street prices on various watches. But I would buy from an AD or a seller on TRF first.

I buy from my local AD 3 in total over a 20 year span) and I just concluded a transaction here with a trusted seller. I wouldn't go anywhere other than these 2 options. Just my two

Hi guys,

I bought a few watches through Chrono24, and as Paul mentioned there is homework to be done first. My motto is, if it looks too good to be true...you know.
You have to do your research and there are definitely a lot of good guys on Chrono24.
There is no protection, they just act as intermediate's between buyers and sellers. They charge 5% fee with a maximum of 99€ for private sellers.

There is a small improvement where sellers can rate other sellers if they have worked with them, but I have insisted a few times already to expand this feature to buyers as well. So far no reaction, but perhaps in the future. They are one of the biggest site's here in Europe regarding watches and growing rapidly.

Have a great day guys!

You are buying the specific seller and Chrono24 has plenty of highly reputable sellers you just have to make sure you are working with one of them. Like anywhere else do your homework and research the specific seller.

I've dealt with Chrono24 a few times and only with "trusted sellers". Had an issue one time, the watch was not as described and I demanded a return right away. The sellers policy stated 2 weeks return policy and I contacted him same day as I received the watch, at first he was not wiling to cooperate but after some angry email he changed his mind and everything went back to normal.

Purchase completed!

After intensive research, shopping around, Q&As, thought I'd let everyone know that I finally got my first Rolex from a trusted seller here in TRF- Patrick a.k.a. OCROLEXGUY. Everything went well and the transaction was smooth and seamless.

Cheers as well to other TRF sellers; MOCAZEN, DavidSW, Justrolexes and Sohail for replying to my queries.

Have great day all!

I've bought on Chrono24, but I did my homework on the seller.

Very happy customer.

I like the bumper sticker that reads:

Buying experience on Chrono24?

I've purchased on Chrono24. As others have mentioned, it's important to buy the seller. Sometimes you can find pieces at much deeper discounts than you can find here, it's a needle in a haystack. If hunting is part of the fun, it will be more fun than TRF. TRF all the guys mentioned sell at market rates, if you want a "deal" you have to look around and take some risks. That said, the "trusted sellers" on Chrono are more reputable and have gone through a verification process. You can ask the seller to use PayPal, which I did for PayPal protection, but you pay fees, still cheaper btw. There are many brick and mortar stores on there.

TRF is consistent and reliable but you pay for it on some things. To TRF's credit most of the descriptions are accurate, but every market has its hooligans. Chrono the price varies from rock bottom to outrageous so it's not better, it's just a different market.

I had heaps of trouble getting Chrono24 to deliver the funds from a private sale into my very garden variety, large US bank checking account. I got the run-around from the Chrono24 NYC office big time. Chrono24 kept putting it on the bank and this huge US bank said the door was open, it wasn't them. They wire the funds from Mangopay, think it was from Luxembourg. It took WEEKS of bugging them and putting pressure on the ladies who answer the phone in New York. They can't get anything done real time stateside because the German home office, who has all the actual ability to send funds, was closed. I got fed up and got a lawyer involved. They finally sent me the money via other means after resisting PayPal etc. It was a nightmare. I won't sell there. I asked recently if they had made any progress on this issue to get my confidence back and they ignored the email.
