SD43 - It's not just wrist size - how tall are you....?

Hi All - Wrist size always seems to be the focus regarding this watch - and other large watches. Another key is how tall you are. How tall are the SD43 owners out there?

Why do you say that? Most people just look to see the lugs don’t overhang their wrist.

I’m 6’2” with 7” wrists.

I hear what you’re saying. In some ways it has to do with overall body type as much as wrist size, whether short or tall

Its not only about wrist circumference. It is about wrist shape. I am 6’2” and 230lbs. 7 1/2” wrist that is pretty flat and short on the sides. My wrist held a DSSD just fine. Have a buddy that is about 5’7” 180lbs and has a 71/2” wrist, that is pretty round. A dssd looks stupid on him. Lugs overhang and it looks huge.

Not sure what the height has to do with this? It’s wrist size that makes the difference
Anyway 6’6” talk with 7.6” wrist

I agree over all height and size makes a difference but wrist size and shape makes more of a difference.

I’m 6’2” 235lbs linebacker/power lifter build with a 7.75” and very flat wrist. 40mm Rolexes look a little on the small size. Prefer the DSSD and 42mm and 44mm APs.

Wow - everyone seems pretty tall. I am 5'9" with a 7.25" wrist - Love the watch but sometimes wonder about size. I know there are lots of posts about size questions - kind of interesting given how many other makes have watches this size and much bigger. I think a big reason for size concerns is how much wrist presence the SD43 commands - very noticeable piece. Bottom line - I am keeping it, but does seem a bit big....

6’0 175 lbs and 7.25” wrists. It fits me great. The first couple of days I wore it, I felt it was a bit big. Two weeks of daily use, I knew it was a keeper.

To me the following are the biggest factors that play a role in being able to pull it off:

1a) Wrist size

1b) Wrist shape

I am absolutely convinced a lot of people are delusional about their wrist size. I have a legit 6.75in flatish wrist and 50mm lug to lug I have learned is the most I can go with no overhang. However, I see people post the same wrist stats or bigger and the SD43 looks like a hubcap crudely duct taped to their wrists.

2) Build - if you have a 7.5in wrist but a 7.5in forearm and 7.5in arm it will look odd on you.

4) Context of wear: The SD43 is a dive watch and an extraordinary feat of engineering. It’s not a dress watch. If you buy it expecting it to be your end all be all watch, especially if you have a 6.75 in wrist like mine, of course it will be too big for those unrealistic expectations.

3)Watch sizing- I see people that I think could pull it off wear it really loose which exacerbates the size issue.

The SD43 is big but the glidelock and balance make it work for me. I tried to love the Skydweller but at the end of the day the 1mm difference lug to lug and the lack of glidelock made it a no go. The SD43 to me feels great and I wear it more than anything.

I am 6ft even with 6.75in wrist

I am starting to run into some people wearing the SD43 - watch is easy to spot if you know what it is, even though looks like Submariner to most people... Saw a guy about my height/size with one and watch looked good (am 5'9"). I guess works so long as wrist is big enough (was concerned when first put it on that you need to be tall to pull off...). Still seems a bit "noticeable" when I look at it, but seeing it on someone else helped.

Yeah, completely agree with the premise of this thread.

Wrist circumference tells you only part of the story as a flat wrist will tolerate a big watch much better than a rounded one. Overall build definitely affects how the watch will wear too.

I have a puny 6.5” wrist and 6’2” tall. Make your own minds up but I think it looks fine, certainly the watch doesn’t look cartoonishly large.

So if you have an itch for this watch but the wrists of a toddler like me, don’t write it off without trying it on.

The height of these watches is the "problem" for me, not the diameter. They look way too tall on the wrist, IMO.

Any of you big chaps willing to post a side-on view pic?

body frame matters. Im 6'5 and i have 7.25 wrists. A big pilot looks more proportionate on me than someone that is 5'7 with the same wrists.

its more than how the watch looks in a wrist shot. You also need the body type. Same as with shoes. Black shoes make my feet look smaller which sometimes makes them look disproportionate to my height and i wear size 14. Or wearing stripes makes you look even taller and thinner which i dont need to look like since i am already both.

obviously the watch cant overhang your wrists but even if it doesnt, that doesnt mean its not too big for your body.

6'2" 200lb w/ 7.25" flat wrist.

Honestly, it's not the thickness but the heavier weight that makes it feel bulky. The caseback should sink into your wrist some unless your wrist is bony.

I am barely 5’6” with 6.75 wrists. I don’t find the SD43 too big at all. But I do like big watches as I have a 42mm polar, a few Pam (44, 45 and 47mm), among others. My smallest watch is the BLNR. My wife, who has 5.75 inch wrists, alternates between a Pam 390 and an OP39. My advice is buy and wear what you want. If you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

I don’t think height matters much as the wrist size and wrist shape....

Looking at the pics (44mm ym2 and 40mm BLRO) below, can u tell how tall I am ? ,-)

Don’t have nice pic of sd43 on wrist
