Tudor Submariner reissue?

Recently Tudor posted this picture on their instagram with the caption:

'The beautiful burgundy color on this 90’s prototype resulted in the bezel tone of the #BlackBay and Black Bay GMT'

The response to the post was extremely positive and it got thousands of more 'likes' and attention than other posts on their feed.

It's a long shot, but what do you think the chances of Tudor reissuing the Submariner might be? The amount of Black Bay variations are quite plentiful already and they will probably continue down that route for who knows how long.

With SS Rolex Submariners scarce to find at AD's, it could be a welcome return if they could actually be found at AD's easier than Rolex and without large premiums.

Would it be a step back for Tudor given the success of the Black Bay line or would it help to push the brand further?

What are your thoughts and would any of you buy one?

With the success of the Black Bay line, and particularly with their recent Fifty-Eight, I have a hard time ever seeing this happen. I wish it would, though. It’s a great watch.

I would definitely buy one. Especially if they had the option with the snowflake hands and square markers.

I would buy one as is, in the picture, maybe blue. Like a 5 digit Rolex Sub but brand new and with a pop of colour.

They post a picture of that watch about every 6 months or so. I am personally hoping that we see a variant of such with the next release cycle. My bet is a 58 no cyclops, but a reder red than the burgundy from the BB41. I'd buy one.

Nail in coffin for most other mid their steel sports brands.

I have a 79090, and would love to pick up a modern interpretation of it. I have my Tudor Sub, BBN ETA, and Sub C to hold me down till then... I think it wont happen though as I feel Rolex wants to hold on to the Submariner name and leave the Black Bay and Pelagos as the diver options for Tudor... But of course thats what I think and no actual confirmation on that.

I don't think this will happen. Tudor wants to break away as being a copy of Rolex with ETA movement. Which is a good thing as now we have Black Bay, Pelagos.

This !

The BlackBay IS the modern interpretation of the Tudor Sub.

They have tried to get Tudor their own identity since the mid 90s without much success until the Heritage line.

In the days of the 79090 and the 792x0 Chronos Tudor WAS the cheaper alternative to Rolex. Rolex quality on a budget kind of thing. There's nothing wrong with that, but clearly it is not what they intend to be today.

I don't see them going back anytime soon.

Would I buy it, yep. Will they make it, nope.

I would venture to guess the BB58 May get some tweaking and maybe a color option or two, but they will not call it a sub nor will it have Mercedes hands. That along with the current SS Rolex demand is why the 79090s will continue to gain value.

I don’t think Tudor will go back to their past considering what they have achieved today.

Oh hell yes I would . It would compliment the range & probably have a couple of years waiting list too . It would match my 79090 nicely

I don't see it happening. Would be a step back from everything they have built over the past few years.

I would kill for a 40mm snowflake (no date) in steel.

i agree. tudor has jumped through hoops trying to remove the public label of making watches using rolex cases with diff branding on dials / clasps, colors and ETA movements. granted, they did make some awesome watches during that era like the Monte Carlo (to name one).

I think its pretty clear Tudor is staying away from iconic Rolex details,

so doubtful you will see things like mercedes hands, cyclops, etc.

No way Rolex allows a cyclops on a modern Tudor Sub. And well no cyclops then you get the Black Bay as already is. Offering a cyclops Sub will destroy all the work Rolex put into Tudor to establish it as a more unique stand alone brand rather than a "cheaper Rolex". The Pelagos if it was a DSSD light in design would be a whole lot less interesting

I like it, but I don't see it happening.

Would I buy one? That's a different question. Depends on how much room is in the watch box. Space is kinda limited at this time.

I LOVE this watch! Beautiful red bezel with Mercedes hands and no metal around the markers.

I would bet that Tudor will come out with 58 variations just like they did with the BB41s

I won't predict the likelihood of Tudor releasing a Sub, but if they did I would very seriously consider buying one.

I would buy it in an instant if Tudor made it. But they post that photo on a regular basis, and I don't think it will ever happen. More likely we'll get more variations of the BB58 (which is not a bad thing).
