I No Longer Own A Rolex

I have decided to gift three of my watches, one each to my three sons while I’m still alive and can enjoy doing it myself instead of in my will. They each picked the one they wanted, and as it turned out, were the exact ones I would have picked for them.
The Explorer, OP39, and Tudor Pelagos will be leaving my collection, and although I’ll miss strapping them on and admiring their beauty, I’m quite content with my decision.

Wow. Probably a satisfying feeling....
I'd feel naked.

Will there be one of something else adorning your wrist?

I’ll still have the Black Bay and Nomos to keep me company.

you will still have your Black Bay and your nomos...

After 23k posts is what I have to look forward to... "No longer own a ROLEX…?"

What happened to you man! Who did this to you?

Nice move. With the ROLEX Prices, and the lack of inventory, I kinda feel the same way

While I’m know you will miss them being a parent myself I can imagine that being a very rewarding experience. Mine are girls and young but perhaps one day they will want my watches and I’d be very happy to pass them on ...

Very generous of you Dad. I bet your sons are very thankful and you showed them the love and sacrifice of a father. God bless you

Bravo. I keep a couple in my safe for my boys...when they each graduate from college, they can choose one. I am very much looking forward to that day that I too can share my watches with my boys.

I’ve had this on my mind for awhile now.
And maybe this sounds silly but I didn’t want them to associate having a nice watch with their father dying. I’m alive, in relatively good shape, plan to be around for a good long time, and can enjoy bestowing the gifts.

Wonderful gesture Angelo, you're a good man! I'm sure your sons are elated and honored by your gift, and this way you'll have the opportunity to see them enjoy them as you have.

I've gifted several watches to my three daughters (1 Rolex + 2 other brands) and am often seized with the 'Gollum Syndrome' (My Precious!) when I see them on their wrists. But I quickly get over it. Usually. When they come visit and leave them unattended I'll sneak them into the sink and give 'em a bath.

My dad did the same thing with his three sons. I was gifted a 16613. 11 years later my dad is still alive and well. Something I’ll never forget.

Great job.

Well thought out, perfectly justified, and executed.

I did this for a couple of best friends years ago and the feeling was great. And knowing those knuckleheads (term of endearment) would finally be wearing a quality timepiece and not some nerdified wrist-hijacker helped me sleep a little better at night.

Thanks for sharing and giving us all something to think about.
