One of my favorites for sure. Welcome to the club. It’s best dial hands down. Even 506 I’d say. Glad you went for it

Great write up and congrats! I have a large wrist and like to wear loose so the oyster flex is daunting. Hoping they come out with this in a bracelet at some point.

Awesome, congrats!

I recently picked up the YG version but I have to say the WG looks very nice and was a close 2nd for me. I find the oysterflex very comfortable.

I will just make a general comment about the Oysterflex strap. I had reservations at first about the system. Having to buy different sizes, and the tight control over supply of them had me really skpetical at first. I will freely admit I was concerned about a limited resale market too. And yet, I had tried Everest and Rubber B and didn't like them - they just didn't feel like they matched with Rolex.

The way the Oysterflex strap is designed is quite interesting with the titanium blade in the middle. I can't help but think it's a bit of overengineering on Rolex's part, but at the same time, I think it's what enables its unique design with the "wings" on the inside and provides the foundation/structure for it. It's definitely the most comfortable rubber strap watch I've owned to date - I find others tend to feel sticky after a full day of wear, but not with the Oysterflex strap which allows for great ventilation and stability of the watch on the wrist. And to me, it's that kind of engineering and feel which makes it the only acceptable rubber option for a Rolex.

I do wish for the benefit of potential buyers, Rolex had a better way to try the sizing before buying. The size that fits you on one model, may not necessarily be the same size on the other. For instance, ED/EE on the Yachtmaster was way too tight for me, and I required ED/EF (using the second micro-adjustment hole), which was a tad loose, but if I used the third hole, it would have been too tight. On this one, I tried ED/EF with the strap being on the innermost hole, and it was a tad loose. Eventually, ED/EE on the outermost hole was what I needed - perfect balance without being uncomfortable, and I could have the benefit of the Easylink for the summer. And I warn, that I found the fit between the OF on the 116519LN and 116500 were different too, possibly because of the location of the springbar holes.

Also, I think the PM models are less forgiving in sizing than it would be if it was on SS. You dial it in too loose and the watch flops around. That was a problem I had sometimes on the Yachtmaster.

If you buy new from an AD, they should have different sizes on hand to swap, but if they don't, it can take some time to order. I decided to make things easy by going to the RSC directly, but the AD definitely told me that sizing could have been done by them too. RSC did the swap for free as the watch was new, and had all sizes on hand to get the fit right.

If you buy used, then that's where it might get expensive or a bit more difficult. At least, what the local RSC told me was that the strap was about the equivalent of $350 USD per end, and that if you need a new size, you had to turn in the old one (while still paying full price). Now, some ADs may sell you the strap too without requiring a one-to-one exchange.
Same sizing for me as well with the 116500 and 116519. They line up on different micro settings. The hole location on the 116655 is also different than both Daytona’s so the fit will be different as you pointed out. But ADs do have different measuring systems for the YM and Daytona, so if your AD knows what they’re doing YouShould be OK though. As for the 116500, you’ll be on your own is that watch obviously is not offered on OF.

I couldn't agree more. My only knock on the OF system is just what you've described...it's so hard to get a good fit if the straps that come on the model don't fit. I'll go as far as saying I wouldn't buy this watch outside of the AD for this very reason.

I had this conversation with my AD. All the different straps should be on hand, IMO. Problem is the expense. Rolex is not going to supply it and it's not fair to expect the AD to...especially when they may not even have the watch in stock. It took them forever just to get a 519...and it's the only OF Daytona they've seen.

Myself, I would love to see the OF incorporated into a deployment clasp type solution. If it's a little tight or loose, you can just take it off and move it a notch or two. My two cents.

Congrats again!

Congrats. I saw one at my AD in the case yesterday. I also think this looks better in person than in photos.
I didn't buy it because I rather get the full pm bracelet version but this is a beautiful watch and more modern looking. Congrats again.

My only knock on the watch is that it's a collection killer. Every time I walk by the watch box, I have to take whatever I'm wearing off and put the 519 on. It's just not fair to the other watches.

Thanks! When I owned the 5164 and 5167, I was heavily debating this one, but couldn't really justify having two very high end pieces on rubber. Now that I have a 5712, I like this as a companion as it adds more to the collection with the chronograph and WG case. The dial is so Patek-like with that beautiful sunburst pattern and polished indices.

Thanks! I definitely think it is my favourite production Daytona. I give a slight edge to solid subdials, and I love sunburst dials made by Rolex. Platona has grown on me over time, but I still have my reservations about the weight.

I am an "in-between" size with ED and EE/EF on the Daytona. When I put the OF on the 116500, I had an ED and EE set, with the EE on the outermost micro adjustment. It ended up being a tad too tight and I had to wear it all the time with the Easylink extended. On the 116519LN, I have it on the outermost micro adjustment and it's absolutely spot on.

Now, it may not be a fair comparison, as I suspect my wrists have shrunk in the last few months, but that was my experience.

I agree that they should offer more adjustability on the OF. That said, it's a good system for ensuring there's no excess material flopping around. It's a very clean and integrated design that feels like part of the watch rather than an afterthought.

Some great photos and yes agree fully about the hue of WG vs SS being warmer.
