High Pitch main spring noise heard through pilow while resting on watch?
I was just resting my head on a pillow with my watch under it. the pillow was kind of pressed into my ear a bit and I heard a high pitch sound repeating. I was startled. Then I realized this sound was coming from the watch, through the pillow, to my ear. i took my watch away from the pillow and the sound stopped. then i put the watch up to my ear and i could ever so slightly hear the high pitched sound. I think its from the main spring? or something oscillating faster then the second ticking sound. sorry if i am confusing watch parts. i wear the sub everyday, and it was serviced about 2-3 yrs ago and it got a rotor i believe replaced.
do u think it needs servicing? |

I get the exact same from my new DJ. It’s my first Rolex so no idea if it’s normal! Seems to come and go

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I hear this with my DJ41 and my Pelagos (in house). I only hear it thru my pillow. So strange. |

It's not the mainspring, which pretty much just sits there, slowly unwinding.
The escapement, including the hair-spring oscillates back and forth at 8 times per second and gives off a quick pinging sound. 8Beats.JPG

High Pitch main spring noise heard through pilow while resting on watch?
Welcome to the world of acoustics. Your pillow is acting like a huge frequency absorption device. But it focuses the pitch that the watch movement emits (albeit in a low Db level).
If it bothers one, then there is a solution: As Larry said, it isn’t the mainspring; it is the escapement and the 8 beats per second yields 4 “ringing sounds” per seconds. The 3135’s frequency is 4 Hz, or 28,800 vph. A watch at 4Hz makes 4 oscillations per second, or 8 semi-oscillations of the hairspring per second. The pallet fork sound is reflected like an echo inside the metal watch case to ultimately emit through the pillow to your ear. Why doesn’t your Omega co-axial Sound the same? More moving parts and less hammering energy in that design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I haven't been able to hear my watches run for almost 30 years. Sometimes, the OQ comes through.
