I believe in wearing what you want as long as it doesn't break any existing laws. People are going to do as they want anyways so if they want to look foolish so be it. REMEMBER THEY ARE ONLY TRYING TO SHOW THEIR INDIVIDUALISM!!!

Here are some pics from my big watch experiment. An Oris Small Seconds diver-47 mm but wears like a 45mm. My wrist is 7.3 inches. It was 245 grams, big and heavy. I loved the loos of this watch but it was just too big and only lasted a few months. A pic of my new LV as a reference. I tend to see 45mm PO's on small wrists a fair amount.

I see so much of that, I'm jaded. There are so many "hip hop" wannabes here in LA it's ridculous. I've even seen watches with spinners! Now when I see that perfectly appropriate watch on the wearer, that's a treat. The other day I saw a small square gold watch on a strap on Jonty from Cash in the Attic, and it was wonderful. John Lithgow also wears a tasteful dress watch on 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Yes, i completely agree - I think that people with small wrists wearing big watches look like clowns - i literally laugh and think of a circus. In reality, that applies to most of the people that wear a certain brand that i'll call 'bandwagon", but that i'm not allowed to mention for fear of getting an infraction.

I think it would be very rude to point it out. People love their watches, although I agree, many wear a watch that's simply too big for them.

That's 12 points in 16 days, by the way. I don't know why you've taken this direction after a great record of making good posts, but I'm afraid the rules apply to everyone.

If huge watches are what floats your boat, wear 'em and enjoy 'em. Many of the ones I see are 'look-at-me' watches and I think they look rather silly, especially on a small wrists.

A huge watch (huge) on a small wrist is as bad as a tiny watch on a large wrist IMO. Doesn't bother me either way though...I have my own wrist to worry about.

From an aesthetic point of view, larger watches should be for larger build people. I have a tiny wrist, but my forearms and upper arms are pretty big at 13.5 and 16 inches. So, a big watch on my tine 6.5 inch wrist looks small on me. I think if you are of a small build and have a small frame, you should try to keep away from bigger watches as it looks like you are wearing a clock. Ofcourse this excludes girls wearing 40mm watches, which is hot
Personally, I would not go for a watch bigger than 42mm. 40mm is probably the perfect sized. I wish Rolex continues to make their Sports models in this size. |

I have a 7" wrist and I'm comfortable wearing a Kobold Seal (44mm) and a Panerai Luminor Sub. My interest in watches started with my Omega SMP which is a perfect size for me.
The only thing, and the only thing right now, that's keeping me from buying a SD is that it looks small compared to the watches I am used to wearing. The GMT IIc is a fraction bigger but looks larger and is why I am slightly leaning that way. To each their own, I say.

I was wearing my Omega Speedmaster 145.022 yesturday which felt really huge. I've been wearing vintage pieces lately, a 40's Breitling Premiers, my Airking, and a slew of tank style Hamiltons. Compared to those, the Omega seemed really large. I couldn't imagine wearing anything over 42MM.

I, myself, am 6 foot 1, around 200 lb's, so not a small guy. My arms are decent size (I used to box, so I retained most of the physique), but my wrists aren't anything to write home about. However, a datejust looks ridiculous on me, I cannot pull it off. Now a Daytona - looks good, but still borderline too small. My Breguets are perfect size, just under 43mm - but i do own a 48mm Corum Admirals Cup - so, I guess what it boils down to is - to each his own! BTW, my wife wears a Lady Diver by Ulysse Nardin, which is just under 40mm and it is the sexiest thing I have ever seen....

For some reason I don't get hot and bothered over such things.
What a silly and provocative thread to start with.

personal preference; but its hilarious sitting around a poker table, when the dials are so large you can see reflections of your opponents hand

45mm for me is as big as my wrist can handle. 39-42mm is my personal sweet spot.

I find it funny how people can have such a strong opinion on how silly large watches are but don't hold the same opinion about precious metal sport watches, watches that go to 3000ft, chronographs worn by people who do not know what they are and tool watches worn by suits.
People buy what they like. |
