I have a 6.5” flat wrist and don’t find my original DSSD too big/heavy/uncomfortable. I also have a 44mm Panerai and think that wears a lot bigger than the DSSD (probably because of the large crown guard). Personally I was always enamored with this watch due to the sheer “technology” behind it and the depths it can withstand.

not if it sprung a leak at 10k feet

also, in the photo, check out the Deepsea Challenge model on the mechanical arm in the upper right hand corner

I also read that most of the support crew for that dive received 116610's to commemorate the mission. They were provided to them directly from Rolex with a certificate etc. One of the trusted sellers (lunaroyster) had one for sale. What a cool piece of history those watches were.

ETA: Found the original add https://www.lunaroyster.com/archive-...16610-full-set

I got the Deepsea, and the one and only problem with this watch is that i want the D-Blue Too
It’s thick, but it feels and wears flat on the wrist, and... the Deepsea is Rolex at its absolutely best imho, it’s really something special

The only way you’ll know for sure is to wear one for more than a few minutes at the AD. I’ve had mine for more than ten years now and it is by far my favorite. For reference, I have a 6 7/8-7” wrist which is flat on top. I took out the divers extension (no use for it and it definitely helped with fit) and I wear it a bit on the snug side. It isn’t top heavy in my opinion and in all the time I’ve owned it I’ve never considered selling it.

For someone who has been on the forums since 2009, I'm confused by this post?

the original DSSD was my first venture into Rolex back in 2010 I've since gone onto buy 2 others from the sports range (GMT TT & 114060 sub) i still marvel at my DEEPSEA it fits me perfectly i have 7" wrist ... it wears like no other i have owned or tried. my advice is go and try it on! ..if you feel good and carry it off your in an elite group :-)

Wanted one for a long time, the opportunity came up and I passed on it after trying on. Lovely watch to look at but wears too 'top heavy' for me

it doesnt wear big for a 44mm watch in the diameter. Im not entirely convinced its even 44 as i thought i remember it was once listed at 43mm when they first launched it?

In any case the dial is small and if it was not for the thickness it wouldn't wear that big at all.

My first Rolex was/is 116660 DSSD. I wear it as casual watch. I enjoy this watch a lot.
It's different from other watches. I like it more then my BLNR despite my relatively small wrist(6.5"). It feels heavy but comfortably on my wrist. After short time I forgot that it's there on my wrist. Also one of the reason I like this Rolex, I'm occasional diver and can relate to this watch. Definitely not for everybody. IMO one need to have a character to handle this watch.

I liked it when I owned it but then I had 44mm Breitlings as well altho I always did think it was top heavy and not as well balanced as those.

I bought a 2018 Deep Sea (black) when I was on vacation a few months ago, I was obsessed with the weight and heft of the watch for about 2 weeks. Honest truth I haven’t worn it in months and if you asked me right now where I tucked it away I’d have to walk through my house n check a couple spots til I found it. I love it, I’ll prob keep it forever, but I don’t have a close relationship with it like I do some of my other watches.

I bought the first D-Blue traded it and bought the current one. I really wanted it to work but it is just too thick for me. The 44mm diameter is fine but it just sits too high on my wrist. Still my favorite dial of any Rolex

I have had mine for 6 days, so it's early days - but after 3 days it seemed so completely normal and very very comfortable.

My most worn watches before this purchase were a Black Bay in-house, (which is only a couple of mm's thinner than the DSSD), and a vintage Seiko 6309 which although not particularly thick, is quite large lug to lug.

My wrists are 7.5 inches.

In fact, I owned a DSSD, and got rid of it because the size of the DIAL wasn't any larger than a regular Submariner. In effect it was too SMALL.

Now I have an even BIGGER watch in the Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph. Big is fine, as long as the reason for bigger works. In the POC I get a lot more usability, such as a GMT function, better lume, and for any possible water use I would engage in 2,000 feet isn't a lot different than 13,000 feet.

I also wear a 36 mm Rolex (which is what I'm wearing at this moment in time) so I find that the size and weight of watches depends on the uses I am putting them to.

I guess that’s why we’re all different people :)

My personal opinion, visually when I look at my own wrist I can’t stand the look of anything below 42mm. It just looks “off” to me. I get it some people don’t mind it. Just not my thing.

Sold mine.. at a loss of course

I must admit that before the stainless shortage craze that is going on currently, there was a wild craze for this watch too. One fateful day (my birthday), I called a local dealer I had no purchase history with - inquired if they had the dssd blue, and they said yes. Of course I rushed to pick it up and as I was getting it sized, I said to myself this is entirely too large for my smaller wrists. I ignored my gut and then decided it would be a safe queen. Heck. Keep it for years and maybe flip for a profit. Cut to two years later, I never wore the watch and wanted to free up funds for my kitchen remodel as this money was just sitting there unused. My mint, unworn (besides the initial sizing) dssd cost me 2 grand to have the pleasure of sitting in my safe. Lesson learned. Trust your gut. The piece still makes my heart pitter patter. Yet I’ll never buy again.
So to stay in the bigger watch world, I’m buying an AP royal oak diver instead. I think this will have a happier ending. I hope ! I sold a TT Daytona blue face to help fund this. I loved this watch - it was my grail but the gold made it too flashy to wear consistently. Another loss on a watch for me. Here’s a hint fellas. When I sell, you should buy. You’re all but guaranteed to make a profit from my mistake!
