Wonky Cyclops, or is it my eyes??

Call me crazy if you must, but for some reason, the Cyclops glass on my DJ41 doesn't look entirely straight!!

When compared to my Explorer II, the cyclops glass on the DJ looks ever so slightly like it's tilting up, rather than appearing flat and straight.

I've only had the DJ for a few weeks, and am yet to wear it, hence I've not noticed this until now. Is it my watch, or my old eyes playing games with my over analytical brain??

I think it’s a pretty common issue. You can have RSC replace the crystal under warranty if it really bothers you but I’ve heard sometimes it’s not worth it because the watch may come back with marks.

Yours doesn’t look that bad though, I would just wear and enjoy.

A tad wonky but certainly only noticeable to the wearer. I would just have it taken care of come service time.

It's nothing to wary about - All fine. Just move whatever you taking picture with to the right a little.

I've had the watch three weeks - 7 days over the return period. Frustrated that I've only just discovered this "characteristic".

Isn't that exactly, what modern Rolex are supposed to be about though?

Yeah, kinda sucks. It's become rather sad when people tell you not to look at a Rolex
with a loupe, or simply live with imperfections. Heck Casio can get things right, why not
Rolex?

When spending thousands of £'s, €'s, or $'s on a brand new Rolex, I don't think its unreasonable to expect it to be absolutely perfect. For a brand that has built it's reputation on exemplary standards, high quality, and precision manufacturing methods, when the finished piece has a crooked date window(!), it overshadows - in my opinion - everything else. It's somewhat sloppy, and should not have made it past quality control.

I cant see it tbh and i tend to have an eye for these things, unless its the photo not showing it clearly. The minute hand being under the mag isn't helping.

Ive had my battles with Rolex supposed QC that are even now still on going,and really cant understand when people say things like "its only noticeable to the wearer" ,Does that mean you buy your watches for others to look at ? I buy mine for me.

The angles are not the same for the watches in those photos, nor does it appear that the distance from the lens is the same.

Regardless, if you aren't satisfied with the cyclops, have the crystal replaced under warranty.

It looks fine. Nothing crazy but if it bothers you and it obviously does then you already know what to do.

Looks more like the angle of the camera to me. You can make anything look wonky with the right picture.

All part of the charm of owning a watch manufactured largely by hand. As such it will never be entirely perfect. Enjoy the idiosyncrasies.

You could probably take another 10 pix at slightly different distances and angles and most would all be different.

I think it looks ok. I also think the minute hand position accentuates the top line of the cyclops.

That said, I am quite particular when I set a crystal. What I do is to set the crystal after the movement is cased. I then use my loupe to align the top and bottom edges of the cyclops with the date window. Note that it seems that the cyclops is actually set off the exact centerline of the crystal, low a bit I think, so when you glance at the watch you see the date. Otherwise it would have to be perpendicular to your eye to see clearly.

Based on your photo, it looks reasonably well aligned. Look at it off your wrist, with the crown pointing up, rather than to the side. That may b lpnyou see the alignment better (that’s how I do it setting the crystal). Trying to align it in wearing position (crown right) it gets a little weird where only the top or only the bottom looks aligned but not both at once...

I think having the hand under the cyclops skews the look. Maybe let run it out of the window and take some more dead on pics.

But it looks fine to me. I don't really see it. Nice watch!

This is a common issue.

Mine is positioned the same. I think it's done on purpose to keep the mag to the side of the dial, instead of it messing the dial more !
