Icon20 AP Brick vs PP 5980/1R

Appreciate all of your advice on the following!:

-Never liked the old AP Brick w the gold dial. Really attracted to the new grey dial Brick. What do you all think? Some still advise against this model as it may be too “flashy” and not an everyday wearer.

What do you guys think of the new Brick? Does it look awful after much wear (as the gold picks up many scratches) or, like many watches, does it get better once “broken in”? Too flashy? Any problems w the movement etc?

-What do you think of this vs PP 5980/1R? I have actually been trying to get a new 5980/1R lately but heard from different folks that PP will discontinue this model for the 5990/1R - a model I am not a fan of. But assuming one could get either, which one would you get? (As you may know, the PP is more than double list price in secondary market vs the Brick which fares poorly in secondary)

THANK YOU - really appreciate some wisdom here.

Due to scarcity and demand it is tough to compare them. I too like that new dial on the brick but would personally lean RO for a PM on bracelet.

In my opinion it’s a hard watch to carry off as it’s so loud. It might look as though the watch is wearing you. As was said above a full gold Royal Oak might look better, it’s definitely classier.

Agreed, also depends on the size of the wearer. IE It will look different on someone 5'9 150lbs opposed to 6'3 225lbs

I love the brick because it weighs one whole pound.

I love the 5980/1R because it weighs a half pound. :)

That said, it's partly why I love the Platona and the Platinum DD40... also both weighing in at 1/2 pound.

I absolutely love the brick - so much so that I’ve considered looking to trade my gold 15400 for one.

Any thoughts/confirmations on the 5980/1R being discontinued and replaced w the 5990/1R?

AP Brick w a future 5990/1R? (I loved the 5980/1R but don’t find it worth 200k in the secondary. Don’t like 5990 at all - prefer Brick - and you?)

I’m not a fan of the 5990 /1R - the busy black dial combined with the gold strap feels to me to be too busy.

If I was to get a gold Patek sports watch, it would be the 5164R

I would add that the secondary / grey market prices for the brick make it (relatively speaking) a bargain. They seem to be selling for around USD50k vs around USD70k list
