New member - heirloom Rolex

Hey all, new member here - found y'all when I was looking for info about re-luming a face and also where to get a Rolex serviced. Imagine my happy surprise when I found out about the RSC in Dallas (I'm in East Tx.)

Anyway, I got my Rolex the tough way - it used to be my Dad's and I inherited it when he died about eight years ago. It sat in a drawer for about six years until I turned forty and thought that it wasn't doing any good locked up and there was no way I was going to sell it, so what the heck - might as well wear it.

I'm not sure when Dad bought the watch, but according to info about markings on the band, it was produced in 1985, which was about the time he started SCUBA diving.

Any suggestions about servicing the watch or re-luming would be appreciated!

Send it to Rolex in Dallas and they will quote you all the information you need. Call them first and they will give you mailing instructions. They only accept registered mail in their packaging.

Great heirloom. You should get many, many years of enjoyment out of your Sub after it's been serviced. You might even think of passing it on to your son someday.

I like that!
I got mine the same way, it's from 1984 as well.
I'm still looking for the papers and service records.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry for your loss, you have a beautiful watch. If I were you I'd send it in for a complete service but wouldn't re-lume it as the patina will only get better looking and more desirable with age, plus it's the original dial your dad looked at and that should count for something. Enjoy it for a lifetime and then pass it down. What a great classic Submariner! Enjoy!
