Sell my Daytona (again)?

Sometimes I wonder if we just get that cyclical itch and that just when we feel that we are content, a new watch has to pop up and tempt you to get back in the game. I won't bore everyone with my collection history, but when given the chance about two years ago to trade my black Daytona 116520 for a Royal Oak Chronograph 25860, I did it and I couldn't be happier. The ROC had a date, was less flashy, and was an AP. But I found that I couldn't stop looking at Daytonas and ended up with a white 16520. So now, I have six watches and feel reasonably content, but have been tempted by the recent listing of a Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph on Govberg's. I'm really not looking to have more watches, nor am I looking to significantly increase the value of my collection, so I've contacted George about trading my Daytona towards the GO. So my question to TRF is should I trade my Daytona again?

Part of me says that the Daytona is such an iconic watch that I can wear in any situation. It's very comfortable and I have two rubber Everest straps for a change of pace. I used to be a little self-conscious wearing the black-dialed 116520, but this white Zenith flies more under the radar. The only downside to me is that there is no date so I don't like it as much for work (meaning only wearing it after work or weekends). The GO has a very legible and gorgeous blue dial with an in-house movement, a date, and a power reserve indicator. It hits all of the buttons of what I feel I want in an ideal watch. The part of me that wants the GO says I can always buy another Daytona at any time. The other part is looking right now at the Daytona on my wrist and saying "what the Hell are you thinking?"

Don't do it. Based on past history, you'll regret it.

The GO obsession will pass. The Daytona obsession is with you forever.

Part of the GO obsession is that a GO was my first nice mechanical watch. Maybe in retrospect I should be upset with GO because it started a pretty expensive habit!

For what its worth, this is my current collection. The Blancpain serves as my dress watch, the Hublot and Panerai are my casual/weekend/water watches, and the VC/AP are my favorite daily wearers. The Daytona has been a bit of a daily wearer and weekend watch. The three safest from selling/trading are the AP, VC and PAM.

Somebody like Chrono's....... I would not do it, certainly not a good economical decision to flip an easy to sell and price holder for one with one with unknown resale.

We all have different tastes, but I love your lower row, and the top row, even though expensive I would all consider up for negotiation.

This could work although the value of the Hublot is half the Daytona.

I would flip the Hublot and Panerai for the GO... but would have no problem keeping the collection as is...

I would hold tight for a month and wear through all of my watches with a focus on giving the Daytona as much wrist time as possible. I would not consider letting a Daytona go before I traded the Hublot. I know the value is not the same as the Daytona but do some research on the GO and see the hit you will take on it should you ever want to move it.

This.

You know how I feel about the GO too. If I hadn't just bought a RO, that watch might be gone already!

I say but it so that when you get bored, I can buy it from you!

Holy chrono. You have to keep a Daytona if you are a chrono guy. Hublot out, GO in

I'd dump the hublot and call it a day if you must trade

I'd keep the Daytona. Do you Iike the Hublot? I'd trade that for a Patek aquanaut or nautilus to give you all the top names

I looked it up and I'm almost embarrassed to say it has been four months since my last purchase. Now in my defense two of those months had 31 days 😉

I bought the Hublot because it gave me some of the ROO look and functionality in a size that fit my wrist. And unlike a ROO, the Hublot was only in the $4k ballpark. I have been contemplating other moves and I've had the Hublot "For Sale" ad written and ready to go for awhile, I just haven't posted it. I haven't specifically asked, but my guess is that if I trade it (TS or dealer) that I would be lucky to get $3k. And with options like the GO or a Patek, $3k wouldn't go very far. So it hasn't been a priority to list it.

In reality, it is looking like my best bet may just be to do nothing. Or maybe I should list the Hublot. But I appreciate the advice to hold onto the Daytona for right now and maybe re-evaluate in a few months. I keep telling myself that there will always be new watches popping up.
