Flexible Waiting List at Your AD?

I stopped by the AD tonight to try on some watches. When I asked if he had a BLNR he said no and that they had a waiting list. After a few minutes I asked if maybe they had a BLNR in the back I could just see. He said he would go to the safe and check. He came back with a BLNR. He got it prepped for me try on and laid it next to the GMT and DSSD on the tray. As I reached for the BLNR to try on I said, don't tell the owner. He said to me, I'll sell this one to you if you want. Have you all experienced that waiting lists aren't in play if someone is in the store and ready to buy?

nope.

but kudos to the sales rep for trying to earn his lunch if there's wasn't a deposit on the watch.

Yea if there's no deposit it's fair game IMO.

That said, I got the call a few days ago that my BLNR is in, but I have not yet had a chance to go pick it up between travel and a flat tire on the way home from work Monday (also admittedly still kind of on the fence whether I'm going to buy now or not with a wedding coming up in 10 months). If I got a call before I could get down there saying that it was sold, I wouldn't be upset because it's my own fault for not getting there (assuming its been more than a few hours or a day so I would at least have a chance of getting there)

I did not. I want to buy a watch for my dad and we haven't decided on which yet.

No idea how my AD runs their waiting list but a wait for a BLNR there is not. A streak of nonsense regarding my Daytona...there is

My local AD (a small retailer) had a BLNR in stock when I was there in August, and he let me try it on and play with it. I'm surprised that there is still a waiting list for these, but I guess it depends on your timing, since it has since sold.

Now they have a RG YM that is calling my name...

I believe "lists" are as fake as "price increases" and many other things a commissioned sales person says.

Yes. It was not so much the list, but the AD didn't bring out certain watches for buyers they thought were tire kickers. This happened to me before with a blnr.

A waiting lists true meaning is: what are you waiting for, pay for it immediately.

Definitely flexible.

I went in to an AD is bought a D-blue off and asked a female assistant about a subC and was defiantly told there is a three month long waiting list.

My other half spoke to the manager (she picked up the blue) who recognised her immediately, and two days later he rang and told her your watch is here !!!!!

Some waiting list that was. There is definitely a lot of flexibility in these waiting lists imo.

If you spend enough money (I don't include myself in this) then there is no such thing as a waiting list

waiting list in some cases is a sales tactic to get you to buy the watch today.

Well, it's probably going to vary from AD to AD.

I would think, however, the general rule is that if someone in the store is wanting something with cash in hand, that's a force to be reckoned with. Kind of like the "bird in the hand v. two in the bush" analogy.

I think this happens at not just Rolex ADs, but many luxury goods store. Many items are kept in the back and only brought out after the SA has sized you up and realize you are a serious customer and not just a tire kicker.

My AD would sell a watch to someone who lives locally over any random person who calls across the country. Even if they get on the list several months before. This type of thing varies greatly from AD to AD.

BLNR's can be found at most AD's cases in my area currently - no wait. Many have more than 1 in stock.

Bahahahaha.....so true, so true. If there is a waiting list, anyone on it will just get pushed back one more watch delivery but will probably still buy the watch when it comes in. So the AD gets one more sale than they wouldn't have otherwise by selling to someone off the street with money in hand who's not on the list.

BLNR = in stock or a phone call away (easy). Waiting List Imaginary.
compared to...
116500 = Patience, persistence, spending $$, arm-twisting, pestering, and constant pressure. Finally prevailed after 5 months! Waiting list VERY REAL.

Might have my AD make a phone call for BLNR soon. Really love that watch, and next up for me.

Well said and agree.

The owner of my AD treats the locals with preference

This! I bought a BLNR this year right before Baselworld. As soon as I said I wanted the Black Daytona I was on the list. 5 months to get the watch, and the person who ordered the white is still waiting. No way would I have changed my mind on that.
