Anatomy of a Fake Tudor 7928

Fellow on another board has a listed 7928 he wants to trade.

He states:
Quote:
Here is a catch and release for me, absolutely stunning to the point that im afraid of wearing it. This is not an original watch but a project assembled of all original parts. The case, dial and hands are all correct but as i understand it the movement is not an original cal. 390 but the later ETA unit found in the 7016, running at a staggering .5s +/- a day on my winder. Watch is in gorgeous condition, please pm offers and questions. Looking for more modern divers and subs, or military chronos a la sinn/damasko.
Thanks for looking.
Except this is not a real 7928 nor a real 7016. Case photos are not clear enough to be 100% but CGs look off. Crown has too fat a face for too narrow a knurl.

Anyway, I notified Nub via PM it was not legit and was told to prove it. So I figured I would do a little photo essay for the benefit of others.

There are other things wrong with this watch too but we'll start here ;)

Yes - he tells me it is real and I should bring proof - so I did . In his defense he could have bought it this way thinking it is true. Not going to speculate on if true or not.

FYI - seller seems to be a standup guy, pulled the listing and is trying to get the watch he traded back.

Be very wary of this fellow Vince: vap_valdez@yahoo.com - seems to have a history of trying to swap fake watches for real and has a few posts on Rolex/Omega sites

His description just gave me goosebumps. It's clearly a completely fake watch. Even if the case were real, you have to assume it's junk too. Catch and release. What an expression. The whole thing makes me angry. What's really wrong is how eBay allows these fake cases to be sold from Vietnam. They never take them down. They are enablers

The vintage world has many pitfalls and demands an educated consumer to avoid being taken advantage of.

I was offered this watch as a trade for one of mine about 2-3 weeks ago. The insert pearl was an obvious problem and I got a confirmation from David (frogman4me) that it was all wrong. He contacted me out of nowhere. I believe he was from New Zealand.
