Rolex padellone ref 8171

Is there someone who is able to tell me how many ROLEX Padellone REF. 8171 were manufactured, if possible with the break down by model (precision, chronometer , gold ....)
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge .

Sorry, I can't help with any info regarding this reference, but I saw an article on this black dial 8171 and it's supposed to be quite rare.

From my research, there were approximately 1000 pieces produced between 1949 and 1952. Most were in yellow or pink gold, fewer in stainless steel. So given the same condition, because of the relative rarity of the stainless, the stainless can sell for as much, if not more than the gold models.

I'm keeping mine.

Did you happen to see the article about the stainless padellone that went for $1m at auction in November?

Out of curiosity, what causes that strange black oxidation on the case?
