I suspect not (due to his lack of tech) but I wonder if this Kent character actually knows about this thread.

He should as he is currently crucifying his own business.

He seemed appropriately shocked to see that it had been that long, and I knew he'd prioritize after it being brought to his attention.

I'm obviously not going back though, and a now find myself believing the bad reviews regarding inpunctuality and I'm now seeing his indignant responses in a new light.

Him showing me the newspaper article defending his untimely sercice simply made me smile; pathetic.

It's Monday of the "promised" week... the suspense mounts.

I'll keep you posted.

Just to get the time table right and use it as a reminder: it's Wednesday a week after the "promised" week.

That's it! Funny. I hope our friend gets some relief soon and gets his watch back. And I agree, Kent is done as far as TRF members are concerned.

It's only Tuesday, and yesterday was a federal holiday in the US. I think private carriers (UPS, Fedex, etc.) were delivering, but US mail wasn't. It is fairly late in the game, but not so late that if Kent shipped on Friday, OP would have necessarily gotten it already. And for all we know, he already did, and just hasn't checked in yet.

what happens in Kent's watch repair shop stays in Kent's watch repair shop.

Should have been a bad sign when Kent referred to the movement as the "guts".

all joking aside, more on Kent:

Here's the issue: (Kent) My favorite brands are A. Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, Fortis, Girard Perregaux, Glashütte, Omega, Oris and Patek.Rolex isn't one of his faves. Does this have anything to do with the time lapse? He works on the Patek's and VC's first?

Just a thought. Didn't he tell the OP that he doesn't do email? interesting b/c in that article he refers to this: The internet has had a very positive impact on the watch servicing industry

This guy.......wow.

Kent Mikolite, the proprietor of this Jewelers Row shop, is one of only two people in the city certified as a master watchmaker by the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute. Rolex chronographs, Vulcain Crickets with mechanical alarms, ultrahigh-frequency Bulova Precisionists—he knows them all. Mikolite charges $600 or so for the typical Rolex repair—including an inside-out, ultrasonic cleaning—but if the fix is simple, he may do it on the spot for free.

I kept waiting for a quote like this in the article:

"Kent then showed us a vault full of customer's watches that he's 'been meaning to get around to' since the early 1990s."

There was a thread on "burnout" recently somewhere on this Forum.

All joking aside, I wonder if that's Kent's problem. It sounds like at one time he was at the top of his game......... but now, not so much.

oh really?

Mikolite, who has occupied this store — a converted studio apartment — on Wabash Avenue since June 1997, said he does no advertising. All his business, which numbers in the "thousands" of clients, comes from word of mouth. For that, he points to a framed Certified Watchmaker certificate from the American Watchmakers Institute on one of his walls, next to the institute's Code of Ethics.

"I can fix a watch for somebody poorly, and then the bad word is going to spread, and then nobody's going to come in here," Mikolite said. "So I don't work that way"

Also don't think this will end well either....

And my Rolex will only ever go to RSC, as my Dad did with his. As it happens I've just collected my Sub from London RSC at St.James, after its first service and it looks like new, complete with stickers and a new crown as the only needed new part.
Took 6 weeks, and cost £540. Very good service from the persons at reception and the emails from them giving confirmation via emails etc.

Yes, add "Kented" to the TRF lexicon.

GeeRam, How long did you wait for your Sub's first service?

7 years.

But noticed last summer that it was starting to gain quite a bit of time over a week (3mins+) so figured it was time to get it serviced. Was gaining up to 8mins+ by the time it went in.

I'd go get the watch. This whole situation is ridiculous. No way to run a business. Obviously shouldn't be in business.

Kent called yesterday. Watch finished. Going to mail it out Saturday.

Reminds me of a saying, "setting yourself low standards and failing to achieve them"

I'll let you know when it arrives.

Thanks for the update. I hope the watch is to your satisfaction. Considering how this has all played out, I guess him sitting on the completed watch an additional four days before shipping it out is fitting. Let's just hope that really is the final couplet of the poem, and that there isn't another verse yet to be written.

Saturday? Seriously??
Makes no sense.........
Today is Wednesday and, Chicago time, there is still PLENTY of time for him to get to the post office.

If I had to guess, I'd say since he is a one-man business, he only ships once a week to save on visits to the PO. You would think under the circumstances, he might make a special trip. However, that would actually resemble something called good customer service, and I really believe Kent was born without the gene that recognizes it.

Given that the watch is evidently going USPS, one must wonder what kind of insurance and tracking will be on the package. Signature required? Registered? Will Kent get the address right? Will his penmanship be legible? (I can't imagine he knows how to use a printer.) This story isn't done, although I am hoping for a happy ending.
