Icon20 The 50th anniversary platinum Daytona ! ! !

Can I ask does any one on here own one ? And if so are they happy with the watch ? Hence the mega bucks price tags they sell for !

Are they too weighty for every day wearing ? And can the platinum be refinished / polished like gold or steel when it goes for a service ?

And if your not happy with your platinum Daytona feel free to send it to me !

Please post some pics of your ice blue daytonas so we can all have wounderful dreams

You could easily check out the WRUW threads or do a search and find everything you're looking for. Otherwise I'm sure a few boys will respond here.

This is a good thread to see some owners:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=325382

I got one exactly two months ago, and it was two months old when I got it. I could not be happier with it. It is very heavy when you pick it up off the night table first thing in the morning. Then you forget about the weight of it, unless you think about it. Then it is noticeable, in a good way. I've been wearing mine pretty much all day every day, except when running or playing sports or showering. I find the dial is absolutely beautiful and the weight and look of it is fantastic! I have never owned a PM piece before, unless you count the TT DJ I wore from 1985 until I got this watch. It feels like a toy watch now, it is so light!

Hey, seriously, it's hard to justify the price, and I started out really lusting after a white dial SS Daytona. I still think I would have been very, very happy with that watch, but not after owning this one. I think there is no going back. But I am not someone who wants a dozen watches. I can't imagine ever NOT wanting to wear this one, so having all my eggs in this basket is fine with me. For others, I can certainly understand the desire to have a gold Sub, a SS Daytona, and a BLNR. Or whatever. For me, I can't believe I get to strap on a watch every day that I wouldn't trade for any other watch.

I think it goes great with jeans and a casual shirt, and great with a suit.

I love mine. It is the Crown Jewel of my collection. I love the way it "feels" on your wrist...heavy, and built like a tank!

There are going to be quite a few there. At least 6 that I know of.

To the OP, I've had mine over a year and it is the most worn in my collection. It took a few days to get used to the weight, but I absolutely love it. Seriously, it is a game changer and like nothing you will ever wear. Like others have said, it's hard to plunk the money down, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. Zero hesitation.

I think mine is about three years old now. I wear it in rotation with my other watches but it can be worn with anything from shorts to a suit. The weight is not a factor after a few times on the wrist. I have found the platinum to be marginally better than stainless for scratches. You will, no doubt, always know you have something special on your wrist; it has great presence.

It is the best of both worlds Daytona-wise IMHO.

You will know what you have - and it's value. And at the same time it doesn't scream at others. The platinum, like WG, doesn't attract attention in the same way RG or YG does.

It does look stunning on your wrist. It's the ultimate! Like Mike Tyson lol
Perfect for a one watch man. I am wondering if it will ever be discounted on the pre loved market. It seems like no one is selling it or the price pre loved is only a few thousand less.
Good for you owners

It is a Fantastic watch, very heavy, but you quickly get used to the weight. It's actually a great reminding factor of what's on your wrist....the best of the best. (IMHO) I wear it in regular rotation with my others. It's a very special piece

It's overrated, too heavy, and isn't versatile at all. Ok, I just lied bc I'm jealous I don't have one. It's PERFECTION but too expensive for me. ;(

What is MSRP?? Than has one in the FS section right now in the $45k range I believe. Isn't that a pretty steep discount from new??

I don't own one (and probably never will) but have had the pleasure of trying one on whilst on holiday in Dubai.

Gary - it is the heaviest, shiniest most perfect watch i've ever seen!

It made my Sub feel like a cheap toy when I first put it back on.

If you can make the deal happen go for it!

They have one in the window at Goldsmiths in the Trafford Centre (was there yesterday).

Not sure what you are referring to but this watch has been selling in $45K range almost since day 1. It never held up as far as resale price goes. Also dealer's are asking $45k but they will take less as it is a super slow seller and it is a lot of money for them to tie up in one Rolex.

I was trying to say that there is not much difference in price between buying brand new and second hand. You can buy this watch brand new for around $47k and the cheapest pre-owned one is at $45k which is not much difference.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that the retail was so high for that one. $75k I just read...

That means that it is actually a good deal. More than 35% discount

There is some truth to that! I was (and still am) on the waitlist for a SS Daytona, and after coming here every day, got tired of the wait, and too "wound up" about watches. I started out making fun of the idea that people would pay 4x the SS price for a platinum version that looked about the same. Then I tried one on. Then I started shopping...

Mine was two months old. At that time, there weren't BNIB ones available for sub $50k like there are at the moment, but I am happy to save some money and get a watch that absolutely was like new in every way. I felt like I was splurging enough buying this that I didn't "need" a brand new one. And 4 years and 10 months of warrantee is enough for me.

Once you have one, I think it would be very hard to go back to the SS one, although I still think the white dial C is gorgeous. But this watch is certainly not for everyone, and without reading about it here, I would have never considered it.

They will have to discontinue this thing one day, and when they do it will creep up in price hard.

People have a hard time justifying the price when they are readily available, but soon as they are pulled from the shelves people are going to be snatching them up quick. For some it might be expensive, to me its the best value in all modern watches.

300g of solid platinum with an ice blue dial! If you can swing it, buy it!
