My First rolex... looking for some info!

Hi Everyone.... I recently inherited my first rolex. This watch belonged to my great grandfather who recently passed away. It could easily date back to the 60's, but could be as new as the 80's, so I guess I'm looking for whatever kind of information I can find on it.

It is a rolex explorer, it works great and is in decent condition. It could use a good polishing, but the crystal is still in good shape and it keeps great time.

The thing I'm really wondering about is the 12 o'clock position. All the explorers I've seen have the large triangle at the 12, where mine has the crown. Yesterday I briefly saw a website which mentioned something about the crown/triangle at the twelve o'clock position and now I cant find the info for the life of me.

Anyway, if anyone can tell me ANYTHING about this watch, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Welcome to the Forum..

But, I don't think that you are going to be too happy with what the guys have to say about your heirloom..........

I dont even know if it's real or fake... I've only seen a few other pictures with the crown at the 12... How can I take off the bracelet to see the serial number info (if there is any)

Could you fill me in on how you can tell?

Is it the crown at 12? I've just read a lot of things stating how the early explorers had a bunch of strange variations. I'm not saying that I doubt you guys at all, I just want to make 100% sure. How can I get the bracelet off to check for a serial number?

Yup! You guys are correct. I pulled the bands off, no serial number or model number

The funny part is that my grandpa was a very wealthy man... I'm wondering if he got duped and bought a fake without knowing it.

Other than the crown at 12 and the lack of seria number, it's not a bad fake. The second hand has about 8 "ticks" per second. A nice looking watch in any case, but I'd rather wear a real one

I have known wealthy people who choose to wear fakes.

I would keep it in memory of your grandfather (and then also buy a real Rolex ).
