Number of hours you work/occupation?

Curious....What do you do for a living and how many hours do you average per day and per week at your profession?

I am a General Contractor who is a business owner. I am 33 and work six days a week 12-16 hours a day.

Is this average, excessive, not enough....?

CFO, very mature company and stable staff. M-F 6:30a-5p. By my preference, those have been my hours for many years regardless of job.

I breed horses. There's no real division as to work/home since I live on the farm. My days tend not to be intense work but we are hugely tied to the place. It's very difficult to get away for more than a few hours. A couple off days away takes a lot of planning and I've not had a proper holiday in five years.
It's currently 03:20 and I'm sitting up watching a mare who's due to foal. I'll get a couple of hours sleep when the Long Haired General gets up in the morning and another couple this afternoon then do it over again. (unless she has the decency to foal, then I'll get a few nights in bed before the next one is due and I need to watch her!).
This is by far our busiest time of the year. In the winter we work much shorter hours (due to the short daylight hours) but the work is much harder.

When in the U.S. I typically work 9 hrs a day, M-F. When deployed, 12-14 hrs a day, 6-7 days, including on federal holidays.

In Canada, anything over 40 hours a week is considered excessive. You should bill for overtime hours.

I work for a non-profit cancer research institute and I work about 8-9 hours a day. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Our company is laid back in the fact they don't micro manage. Do you work and come and go when needed. If I need to be somewhere it might be 5 - 6 hours one day and a little more then next.

I probably average 40 - 45 a week.

College prof, 18 hours/week scheduled teaching time from September through April (I'm off for the summer now). Probably about the same at home through the school year for prep, evaluation, curriculum and professional development, less during the summer.

Nothing special here just own and run a domestic appliance repair and sales business.

As it's my own business I'm kind of working 8-10 everyday taking calls but actuall work 15-20 hours per week.

Have also for past 14 years done door security at local pubs/clubs but getting a little bored of throwing hood rats and little boys out of premises lol

Did work the door in a nearby city at there business district used to get alot of high earners come in so used to do abit of watch spotting. But last year or so worked a local pub so not much to see, well a boat load of poor Breitling Bentley fakes :-)

Miss the money but not the job, used to be fun when I was younger but too much gun/knife crime now and prefer the family life now.

I'm 32.
I own an estate liquidation firm.

I'm a bit excessive with wanting to have input on everything we do, so I work too much I am told (by the wife)

This is my busy season, and I will generally work 12-15 hr days 6 days a week and a few hours on my "day off".

During the winter I may be down to 6 hr days 4 days a week, if I need some time off.

Owning the business gives you some flexibility, but also allows you to flex the wrong way and put all of your time into work instead of play.

Contracting at the moment

Getting paid for a 7 hour day - I don't work a second more & take my full lunch hour.

I'm not a permo employee & don't now get caught up in all the BS like in early\ work late\ work my lunch hour etc. Been there, done it in the past - Not worth it. Within an hour of switching off my PC I was on my bike on the cycle path.

I work out of my home and travel for work quite a bit. When I'm not traveling, I work about 4 hours a day. When I am traveling, I can have 12-16 hour days if you include client dinners

I travel a LOT as well, during my trips, I'm working 12-16 hours, depending on the event and trip purpose. When I'm not traveling, (about 50% of the time), I spend as much time at home office as possible. The actual hours varies greatly, sometimes it's an easy day, 3 or4 hours, sometimes 10 or more. Over-all, I'm pretty happy with the variety, (no offense to anyone that does this) but I don't think I could handle a regular 9-5 job every day in an office.
