The strap? 17.45 euro which today is somewhere around $19.

Newest member checking in. Decided on the Ranger as my new daily. Really liking the bund; much more than I expected.

Welcome to the club! The Bund seems to be a much more popular option than the regular leather around here.

Thanks! Honestly, I went with the bund only because it was available when I was looking. I fully expected to swap it to the camo strap asap and only use it or my own straps, which I was fine with. I have a small wrist; I didn't think the bund would fit me well. I have to use the 2nd to tightest hole but it fits great. I probably won't use it too much in the summer but it's very comfortable.

The Ranger arrived today and will reside on the wrist for the next several days at least. The brown leather strap is comfortable and the deployant fits neatly against the inside of the wrist although I'm used to the strap tail at 12 rather than 6. Checking the accuracy over the next couple of days. On my little Timegrapher it averages +3.5s/d.

Glad to see it arrived safely Gary. Looks great on the standard leather. 3.5 sounds good out of the box, too

Thanks Adam! Going to put the camo on today for a spin. On the Timegrapher, it gains time in all positions except dial up and 6 up (CH and 6H) where it is flat even. I confirmed the dial up accuracy last night. If it stays at 3 to 4s/d, I'll be relieved and learn to be content. <gr>

Oh yeah; especially options which are as high quality. It's going to be tough deciding what to wear it on when the strap I'm having made by Bas and Lokes shows up!

On the camo--Very very comfortable. Had to release two spring bars in the buckle to lengthen the strap in order to center the buckle on the underside of my wrist.

I can't swing OEM at the moment so I picked up a Strapcode Super Oyster. Good fit and the straight endlinks gives it the OEM look. Very comfortable on the bracelet but it makes me glad I got the watch on the bund.

Interestng, I never saw that bracelet before. I guess its more economical to buy the Ranger on the original bracelet and then shop around for leather, though.

Probably. I never would have considered buying a bund strap on my own though. So I'm real glad to have it.
These bracelets are damn well made for what they cost. I've used their Super Engineer II bracelet in the past as well on Seikos. I don't plan on keeping the Ranger on it much at all; just wanted to have the option. |

Quick and dirty comparison
I’ve seen the Ranger described as the new Explorer at half the cost (actually less than half) so utilizing my two day experience with the Ranger I thought I’d do a quick comparison. :- )
Appearance— I have a barely 7” wrist. While my Explorer sometimes sports a leather band, it is most often on the bracelet. With the EasyLink, I get a very comfortable fit. Ranger is obviously a bit larger—41mm v 39mm but not overly large to my eye. While Explorer has a storied history it appears modern to my eye. The Ranger looks vintage which really appeals. The first mechanical watch which drew me into this obsession was a Bell&Ross vintage original chronograph with a cream dial—a cool 1940’s look. Weight— Explorer with bracelet, 2 links removed—130g Ranger with leather band—95g on brown leather band Visibility— The Ranger’s white lumed hands are more readily visible against the black face than the white gold hands of the Explorer unless the light is reflecting off of them. At night, all of Ranger’s hour indices are visible while the Explorer is limited to nine. The 3, 6, 9 are white gold and reflect in the daylight but are not lumed. Ranger lume lasted as long as that of the Explorer at night. At least they appeared identical after equal charging under halogen lights and after six hours. Ranger lume color appears a touch more green when fully charged. Accuracy— My Explorer is +1s/d on wrist, offset by proper positioning at night. It is never more than 1-2s off. Ranger—On my little Timegrapher, it shows an average of +3.6s/d in six positions, and as presently regulated, does not lose time in any position. On the wrist and resting face up at night, the Ranger gains about +2s/d. This was my primary concern after reading other owners of the Ranger and BB saying their watches were significantly less accurate out of the box. Now, things can, and probably will, change over the next couple of months. So far I’m quite pleased. Movement Ranger has 2824-2 ETA Top grade movement with Rolex mods—eg., KIF replacing Incabloc, etachron removed a for more traditional approach—see Al Archer posting. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/any...ml#post5165241 and http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/why-...ml#post6009169 As I’ve read in the WUS Watchmaking forum, the 2824 does not take kindly to too much hand winding. (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f6/f6-2...ad-866942.html) So, I just wind it enough to start the movement and then wear the watch. I assume the 3132 in the Explorer may be more rugged with paraflex and parachrom hairspring— but I have a rather sedate retired life, so demands are not too great in this area. Finally— The Explorer is an all-rounder—a great rugged sports watch but if “cleaned up,” it easily and appropriately slips under the sleeve of a dress shirt. The Ranger seems most at home outdoors and is definitely a casual watch which won’t pass in a more formal setting. I love them both. The Ranger with the fabric strap will occupy the wrist during this honeymoon period. |

Thanks Gary. Some interesting points there. One visual aspect of the Ranger that never seems to get a mention is the blacked-out rehaut, which also adds to the watch's personality, IMO. I didn't know about the problems with handwinding the 2824. I wind mine quite often as it shares wrist time with my THC on a daily basis.

Great pics Adam! And I agree completely; the blacked out rehaut is a super nice feature.
