Wearing New Submariner in the Shower?
Just got my first Rolex, a new black Submariner!! I love it so much! I have had it less than a week and every day it gets better and better.
I bought my Sub to wear it every day and dont plan on taking it off. I wore my previous watch (Gucci 5500M) every day and never took it off my wrist. I showered, swam and even scuba dove with it. I was wearing it in the sauna last month and humidity got inside the case. Lasted a good 10 years tho. My main concern with wearing my Rolex in the shower every day is the buildup of soap scum. I was looking at my Gucci watch a few days ago and all the crevices of the watch were filled with gunk and film, probably from a combination of soap scum and skin oils. I periodically cleaned my Gucci watch but it still had buildup. I have showered with my Sub on since I purchased it but have taken it off while I soap up and shampoo except 1 time. Should I be worried about that with my Rolex??? Pics of my Precious: ☺️ ImageUploadedByTapatalk1431754869.643027.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1431754884.975159.jpg -Freshly |

don't worry, this thing is built like a tank. Just make sure to wash the soap off.

I felt like I did that with my Gucci but it still got gross. I would rinse off for a couple minutes after rinsing the soap off. Do you wear yours in the shower every day?

What's the downside to taking off your watch to bathe?

^ya soap scum is a sneaky ting... I tend to loose things when I take them off. I just never want to take my watch off, I love it too much! Haha. I might start now tho when I shower just to prevent soap buildup.
How do you guys clean your Rolex? And how often? SEAHAWKS - SB XLVIII CHAMPS - 12th Man |

Thats the simple logical answer but even showering every day take watch off and rinse well then no soap build up.But remember this most Rolex shower problems are not from water or soap scum, but dropping them on that hard tiled floor.

Ivory bar? Interesting... I feel like soap bars are what create the worst soap scum

The soap buildup is enough to remove it before a shower. IMO keeps it cleaner and looking better. Clearly it can handle it (no question) but scum builds up on the bracelet and looks gross.

Been showering with my watches for over 30 years, never seen a soap scum build up. You guys need to spend more time rinsing.

I use a baby's soft toothbrush with ordinary washing up liquid diluted in plenty of water. Rinse well and polish with a selvyt cloth. Comes up like new.

I've been showering while wearing Rolexes for over 15 years and soap scum has never been an issue nor ever noticed. If anything showering keeps my watches clean.
I have seen where lotions (sunscreen, moisture etc. ) can create buildup on the 9 o'clock side of case and clasp but a soak and toothbrush remedy that quickly. Beware of taking the watch off over tile flooring, dropping it can create a nasty ding in the case. |

Who uses soap anymore?
Shower gel is the way to go - no soap scum buildup. |

The only watch I have worn for a continous stretch of time (multi day hikes in the alps) without it off my wrist is a g shock. With other watches like a Rolex, why not spend the two seconds to take it off before you shower or sauna and save the weekly soap scum detox??? I am sure they are built to stand the use, it's just the cleaning and soap buildup that would bother me. Granted I wear a watch with leather straps as my daily and rotate my weekend watches so I am used to watches off and on.

I shower with mine and once a week I scour with shower gel and soft toothbrush over sink and it does a good job getting rid of any soap film that may have started to grab on that week, particularly evident in the recesses on the back side of the clasp and right where the bracelet end links connect to the watch and clasp.
My reason for wearing is I travel a lot and am paranoid about accidentally leaving it in the hotel room, so I am just accustomed to leaving it on, always, including when I sleep. |

i clean mine in the shower.
Use light shampoo foam, then take off, and hold up to shower head to rinse. Remove from wrist and towel dry when i get out. Biggest risk is dropping it when soapy. No built up in 5 yrs....but this could depend on your water type though (how hard it is).

Take a toothbrush to it a couple of times a month to get between the bracelet links. Zero worries wearing a Sub 24/7.
