5501 with Explorer dial check.

Greetings,

Does this 5501 with an 'Explorer' dial look legit? Also is the case over polished? I'm trying to find info on this watch and what it's worth but haven't came out with much answers, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

It's the "ROLEX OYSTER CASE" engraving I am concerned about, I have only seen similar engravings on Tudor watches and ladies Rolex watches.

Watch (including case back) looks good from here. They are sometimes referred to as "Dress Explorers" and/or "Canadian Explorers".

''Canadian Explorer'' With that search, I was able to find a few pictures on the net. Seems they were marketed for Canada and other commonwealth countries. As for the caseback, some have the engravings and others dont...possibly because they were polished out with time.

This is my first Explorer

I've owned couple of those Canadian models, both with black waffle dials, one with the 3/6/9. Both case backs were sterile, but I've seen others with writing on them.
The case looks like it's had a few buffings, but not bad.

Absent the SWISS markings at the bottom of the dial, it appears to be refinished.

Instead of saying that the SWISS is Absent right away, you could have asked if it had the making...

I've seen those 3-6-9 waffle dial Explorers, very beautiful IMO.
