Had to get the 1680's out after seeing all these 1680/8's.

With its younger brother.

And can't forget his red headed step brother.

Gold doesn't oxidize but the metals it is alloyed with can. With older gold alloys it is the copper that is in the mix that can oxidize a bit giving it a nice mild patina. It rubs off pretty easily though.

Can understand you. It´s a great Ref.

Either with insert with golden numbers and tower plexy or faded black / silver insert and super domed T19......

For those of you who love the sub yet also wear a DD, this watch is for you. When you put it on, it just feels right.

Aside from the 18k 1680 the 18k 1675 is also a nice fit. Here's mine

What makes you say so?

There is actually a 18k logo opposite but quite faintly taken.

Also another one at the bottom also seemed polished off but still can see the logo at closer look.

Any correct reference I can go to with regards to these gold cases era correct?

The shape of the crown guards is quite bothersome for me and from my experience one of the tell tale signs of a fake case. This case reminds me of another fake that I was offered a few weeks back that fooled a major European dealer.

Also, 1680/8's appear to have been produced in aproximately 4-5 batches 2.19mil, 2.816mil, 4.1mil, and a few batches throughout the 5mil range (5.2mil and 5.8mil I believe). Can't remember ever seeing a 2.7mil 1680/8. That being said, it's possible that your 1680/8, assuming the case is genuine, may have just been a case engraved during the 2.7mil range as it was requested/ordered by an AD or customer.

Please post pictures between the lugs and pictures of the crown guards.

1680/8 thread

Looks fine to me. I think whoever polished it before had a heavy hand on the crown guards. Gold is a softer than steel.

Juergen, your pic of the one with the tropic 19 is awesome. These gold nipple models look so clean and sexy without the cyclops. Similarly, the solid gold nipple GMT with the tropic 38... I'm drooling.

... anyone want to swap one for my Fat Lady"
