To legit or fake? Tudor Air-Lion with Black Dial?
Hey guys,
I am new to the forum so please forgive me if I am posting in the wrong location. I just had a quick question for all of you vintage Tudor Rolex lovers. I spotted a 1944 Tudor Air-Lion WWII military timepiece with a black dial. Is this a rare timepiece or some fake garbage? I researched the best I could and I thought they didn't start making the Air-Lion until 1945? The serial number checks out to have been made in 1944. Thoughts? I'll upload pictures. |

They are around and that one looks ok. I dont see anything that jumps out as off. They are on the rarer side but due to its really small size (32mm) there isnt a huge following and it wont have a huge price tag. I saw one sell recently in like condition for $1150 if I recall. That serial number should put it right around 1956 if you go off of Rolexs serial numbers or early 60s if you go off of the Tudor database. The Rolex Air Lions were from the 40s I think. Tudors were later. Dont quote me though, this was around the time that serial numbers were wacky.

I have a 1945 Tudor, and the Tudor logo is different. On my watch the small Rose
is inside a shield. I tend to think that the small Rose logo was from the 50s. What is on the end of the Crown? here is a pic of my Tudor crown. |

Yes, 1940s would have a printed rose in a shield

Hi, I'm new to Rolex Forums (but I've been working on a Tudor and Rolex collection from the 40s-50s-60s for a bit now).
My name is Josh and I'm SF based (hence my username). To bring this thread back up, I ended up purchasing this watch. The gentleman who sold it to me was a great guy - totally legit. And you'll see it has brothers that are identical, but in white: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=7215158&rid=0 Also, if you do a Google Image Search for Tudor Air Lion, you'll find several other similar models. I'm travelling right now, but when I get back, I'll let you know about the crown. Also, feel free to ping me with other questions. In the metal, this is a really impressive watch. Yes, it's 32mm, but it has such a strong vintage presence, that I don't mind it (though 35mm, of course, would have been perfect!) |
