I recently found this place cruising the interweb for research regarding the purchase of an 18k 6605, seems like you guys know your stuff. I got the watch a few days ago, a 1957, my birth year, as a retirement present to myself. I figured that the only way I was going to get a gold watch for my retirement was if I bought it myself – the bonus was that I got to choose it. I’ve had a SS Datejust from new since 1988, which is my “daily beater”, so I was looking for something completely different as a “dress watch”, and this 6605 seems to fit the bill. I am by no means a “collector”, just a “wearer”, although keeping the watch original is important to me. There seem to be a variety of opinions on the matter here, and I hope to bring that up by contributing to the board in the future. As to the 6605 – that’s for a thread I will start shortly in the “vintage” section – but I figure that if I have taken so much from this forum, it’s perhaps time to give something back …… |
